On September 3rd, Mayor Bloomberg of New York City signed into law the Workplace Religious Freedoms Act, making the municipality the first in the country to institute religious-based protections for public workers. The bill, originally lobbied by the Sikh Coalition in New York, now opens the door for organizations such as CAIR to fight for Sharia Law inclusion for Islamic public workers as well.

The bill, called the “Workplace Religious Freedom Act” by supporters, would change the legal standard by which courts review claims of religious workplace discrimination by public and private city employees.

While the new law signed by Mayor Bloomberg does not force either the MTA or NYPD to accept Sikhs with their full articles of faith, it creates a legal framework within city law that makes it very difficult to continue to exclude them from city jobs. – Panthic.org

New York City's new relgious freedoms law comes on the heels of President Obama's initiative for more diversity in the workplace. Before the President's vacation to Martha's Vineyard in August, he signed an Executive Order calling for more diversity in public sector and federal employment.

These moves by President Obama and Mayor Bloomberg for greater diversity focus on the religious freedoms of a few, but do not count the overall costs, or potential conflicts that may arise when people of Christian or Jewish faiths choose to express their diversity in their places of work. Merit-based hiring is the law under Federal and legal guidelines, and so too is equality when it comes to promotions, and regulatory accomodation. Under the new law, a religious Sikh may wear the customary turban and Kirpan, but legal rulings still prohibit many Christians from displaying crosses, or other articles on work attire expressing their faiths and beliefs. Couple this with the numerous religious observances between the different faiths, and the new law in New York City may soon extend to a disparity in days off, or holiday observance between one employee and another.

In January of this year, the Islamic organization CAIR already sought institution of Sharia Law in the workplace in the state of Indiana. Now that New York has passed a law requiring public environments to accomodate religious observances, it will not be long before CAIR, or another Islamic organization, demands its rights and accomodation for their religious beliefs.

The Constitution expressly prohibits the government imposing any form of religious separation in areas it controls under the public domain. While the First Amendment has been interpreted to mean full separation, in reality it means they cannot impose a religious belief on others, or to a point where it discriminates against someone of a different belief.

Since 9/11, there have been many accomodations by both the Federal government, and Mayor Bloomberg to appease those of religious beliefs outside the foundational Judeo-Christian sphere. With the inclusion of Islam at the 9/11 memorial site, and this new law appealing primarily to the Sikh population when it comes to workplace freedoms, the concept of diversity and appeasement in America is giving way to separation, rather than adaptation and equality.

'Islamophobic' Malaysian cleric cuts loose with (a little of) the inconvenient truth about Islam

From Jihad Watch:

'Islamophobic' Malaysian cleric cuts loose with (a little of) the inconvenient truth about Islam

It's a tad surprising that these (non) revelations about Islam were permitted to be published in a Malaysian-government-controlled newspaper in the first place. Nevertheless, it's worth reminding both Malaysians and non Malaysians alike on what Islam is all about according to the Muslims themselves. And as these choice tidbits come from a cleric and 'influential Muslim scholar', the usual cries of 'Islamophobia' and whatnot will ring more hollow than usual. "Dr Asri: Restriction of Islam could provoke apostasy", by G Manimaran, The Malaysian Insider, September 7th, 2011:

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 — Influential Muslim scholar Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin today accused religious authorities of using a colonial system to restrict Islam, saying this could further provoke apostasy.

The former Perlis Mufti was responding to the Selangor Islamic Religious Department’s (Jais) decision to charge PAS MP Khalid Samad over delivering an unauthorised sermon and for revoking Selangor PAS chief Dr Rani Osman’s religious credentials.

The outspoken leader came to the defence of the duo in a strongly-worded statement on his Facebook profile page this morning.

“... sympathies when there are MPs punished by Jais for giving sermons ... although there was no proof of errors in the sermon ... so hard to preach ... colonial system used to restrict own religion ... do not be surprised if more leave the faith,” he said.

He added that religious authorities were using their power over Islam to hamper the development of the religion itself.

...

“I gave a sermon saying Islamic justice is not just for Muslims but also for Jews or even those at odds with Islam itself.

That last bit about how Islam is for everyone, not just Muslims, sounds distinctly like a threat to me. And how could anyone be at 'odds' or oppose something so 'noble', 'moderate' and 'peace-loving' like Islam? Perhaps because Islam in reality does not at all resemble Islam as its advocates and enablers purport it to be?

By 'development of the religion', Dr. Asri means that Islam must not be inhibited from sinking its tentacles ever deeper into the lives and even most private affairs of every citizen in the country; not just Muslims, but the non Muslims as well (and since when did Malaysia have Jews?). If the mosque and state unified under the totalitarian aegis of Islam have anything less than total fascistic control over society, the good doctor gravely informs us that the inmates might bolt from their spiritual, temporal, and physical prison that Islam has arranged for them. And freedom, I mean apostasy, naturally, must be avoided at all costs. Or Islam is doomed.

It's interesting to note how often these various Islamic 'scholars' and what-have-you take the title of 'doctor', as if adapting this esteemed title somehow imparts any more credibility to the dangerous ideological snake-oil that these people are peddling in the first place.

Christian Association of Nigeria alleges state complicity in massacre of Christians

From Jihad Watch:

Christian Association of Nigeria alleges state complicity in massacre of Christians

"It is unfortunate that the Council of Ulamas, an esteemed body of religious leaders will be more concerned about the number of vehicles burnt and their youths arrested as suspects without giving attention to the number of youths and women that were shot and [macheted] to death."

Sallah Day = Eid al-Adha. "Jos Violence - STF Connived to Kill Christians --CAN," by Raymond Gukas for the Daily Champion, September 7 (thanks to Twostellas):

Jos — Plateau State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) yesterday joined issues with the Ulama and Elder Council over the recurring violence in the state which has claimed hundreds of lives even as it accused the leadership of the Special Task Force(STF) of complicity in the massacre of Christians.

The body described as blantant lies claims by the Ulamas that 200 vehicles belonging to Muslims were burnt during the Sallah day clash between Christians and Muslims . It insisted that Christians have suffered mores losses both in terms of death casualties and property destroyed since the crises started.

It specifically said that over 122 churches have been burnt from 1999 to date , contending that the plot of Moslems in the state was islamise Jos North.

CAN described as unfortunate and self-implicating, the letter written to President Goodluck Jonathan by Ulama/Elder Council, in which it claimed that over 200 vehicles were burnt in the recent Sallah riot in Jos, Plateau State, and that about 30 Muslim youths were arrested and are being detained in connection with the riot.

Addressing newsmen in Jos, the state CAN Chairman, Rev. "It is unfortunate that the Council of Ulamas, an esteemed body of religious leaders will be more concerned about the number of vehicles burnt and their youths arrested as suspects without giving attention to the number of youths and women that were shot and matcheted [sic] to death during the violent attack on the community, and also not minding the killing of Plateau citizens in Jos and surrounding villages by militant mercenaries on daily basis".

Also speaking at a press conference, the Jos north chairman of the Association Rev. David Bamidele added that in the recent clash between the christens [sic] and Muslims 16 of his member were killed, 47 wounded and 26 are still missing.

He accused the out-gone Special Task Force [STF], Brig. Gen. Hassan Umaru of complicity in the killing of his members saying he should be held responsible and tried for his involvement in the crisis.

He said , "I was there and I saw him leading the Muslims to the Rukuba road prayer ground which the security does not allow , but he led them even on the day that was not a Shallah day [Monday].

"So our youths mobilized themselves and demanded for an explanation since that day was not the sallah day and is from there that the disagreement ensued between the two groups"....

India: Islamic jihadists bomb New Delhi courthouse, murdering 10 people

From Jihad Watch:

India: Islamic jihadists bomb New Delhi courthouse, murdering 10 people

They say they will stand firm against "terrorism," but whether or not they will stand firm against jihad is an open question. "Deadly Explosion Strikes Courthouse in New Delhi," by Jim Yardley in the New York Times, September 7:

NEW DELHI — An explosion ripped through a reception area of an Indian courthouse on Wednesday morning, killing at least 10 people and wounding more than 60 others in a bombing that renewed concerns about India’s vulnerability to terrorism. It was the second bombing of the courthouse in less than four months.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene at the Delhi High Court after the blast at 10:14 a.m., outside a reception area used by litigants, lawyers and visitors to enter the courthouse.

“It was in shambles,” said Ajay Mehrotra, a lawyer who witnessed the explosion. “There was total chaos. There was blood. People were running for their lives.”

The Indian home minister, Palaniappan Chidambaram, called the explosion a terrorist attack and noted that New Delhi was already in a high state of alert with Parliament in session. Mr. Chidambaram said Indian intelligence agencies had received information in July about a possible terror threat to the city, which had been turned over to local police. He did not elaborate about the intelligence report and said investigators had not yet identified a suspect in Wednesday’s explosion.

“The bomb blast took place just outside the reception center,” Mr. Chidambaram said at a news conference. “It is suspected that the bomb was placed in a briefcase.”

Reuters reported that a militant terrorist group called HuJI, for Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami, based largely in Pakistan, and also Bangladesh, had claimed responsibility for the attacks, citing security officials.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, speaking to reporters during a visit to Bangladesh, condemned the explosion as “a cowardly act of a terrorist nature.”

“We will deal with it,” he said. “We will never succumb to the pressure of terrorism.”...

Germany: "The Islamic parallel justice system is becoming a threat to the constitutional legal system," "the law is slipping out of our hands"

from Jihad Watch:

Germany: "The Islamic parallel justice system is becoming a threat to the constitutional legal system," "the law is slipping out of our hands"

As has been the case in Britain, Sharia's proponents got their foot in the door with pleas for just a little Sharia, just for a few community matters. Then, the reality hits that Sharia is a package deal: as even Imam Rauf has noted, "it is not possible in principle to limit the Shari'ah to some aspects of human life and leave out others."

And so commences a process of "jurisdiction creeping." There is no such thing as "just a little" Sharia. "Islamic 'Arbitrators' Shadow German Law," by Maximillian Popp for Der Spiegel, September 1:

In mosques or tearooms, Muslim elders dispense verdicts that keep their communities in line. They mediate between aggrieved immigrants, sometimes at the expense of German justice. Some say the arbitrations ease caseloads in court, but others see the creeping advance of Sharia law.

The men ambushed Fuat S. on the street, then locked him in a basement and tortured him. Fuat was later admitted to the hospital in Berlin's Neukölln district with gaping wounds, contusions and broken bones.

Police took his statement concerning the attack the same night. Fuat S., a gambler and a recipient of "Hartz IV" -- Germany's social welfare benefits for the long-term unemployed -- gave a detailed statement. He'd conned an acquaintance, Mustafa O., out of €150,000 ($217,000) and the man was taking his revenge, Fuat said, together with his three brothers. They hit his hands, arms and knees with a hammer and threatened to shoot him.

The public prosecutor's office in Berlin initiated proceedings against Mustafa O., a Palestinian man who had come to their attention repeatedly for violent acts. Police had investigated him in a number of cases, and now prosecutors saw an opportunity to convict a dangerous repeat offender. But when the case began, Fuat S., the principle witness, unexpectedly withdrew his testimony. It was not Mustafa who had tortured him, he said, but an Albanian man he didn't know. Mustafa, he said, wasn't even in the basement at the time. This was clearly a lie, as police analysis of telephone data showed, but the judge was forced to acquit the defendant due to lack of evidence.

The decision, in fact, was reached by a different judge. According to police, the victim's and the perpetrator's families had met at a restaurant in the presence of an Islamic "justice of the peace," an arbitrator who mediates conflicts between Muslims. The two families had reached a compromise: Fuat would drop the charges, and in exchange be relieved of part of his debt.

Helping to create conditions for the collapse of civil society:

According to Bernhard Mix, the public prosecutor in charge of the case, Fuat's false testimony was part of a deal between the families. "It's difficult to establish the truth using legal means, when the perpetrator and the victim reach an agreement," he says.

Judges Without Laws

Politicians and social workers tend to focus on forced marriages and honor killings, but the baleful influence of these Islamic arbitrators has gone largely unnoticed by the public. Joachim Wagner, an author and television journalist of many years, has taken a closer look at the phenomenon in his book "Richter ohne Gesetz" ("Judges without Laws"). Reconstructing Mustafa O.'s case, he reaches the conclusion that "the Islamic parallel justice system is becoming a threat to the constitutional legal system."

These justices of the peace don't wear robes. Their courtrooms are mosques or teahouses. They draw their authority not from the law, but from their standing within the community. Most of them are senior members of their families, or imams, and some even fly in from Turkey or Lebanon to resolve disputes. Muslims seek them out when families argue, when daughters take up with nonbelievers or when clans clash. They often trust these arbitrators more than they trust the state.

The late juvenile court judge Kirsten Heisig drew attention to this problem a year ago: "The law is slipping out of our hands. It's moving to the streets, or into a parallel system where an imam or another representative of the Koran determines what must be done."...

Available Now: Stop The Islamization Of America--A Veteran Freedom Fighter's Groung-Breaking Guide To Defending Our Nation

From Jihad Watch:

Available now: Stop the Islamization of America -- a veteran freedom fighter’s groundbreaking guide to defending our nation

PGSIOA500.jpg

Every day in America, Islamic supremacists are growing more aggressive, demanding ever more accommodation of Islamic principles and practices that contradict American freedoms. Here is the one book you need to fight back, legally, peacefully, and effectively.

Just as Patton needed a strategy to defeat Hitler, so now free citizens need a strategy to defend the rights and freedoms guaranteed to us by the U.S. Constitution but denied by Islamic law. This book gives you that strategy. A practical primer for patriots, Stop the Islamization of America offers the fruit of a veteran national activist’s years of experience fighting back against Islamic supremacist efforts to erode our freedoms.

In Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance, renowned activist Pamela Geller, the national leader of the fight against the Ground Zero mega-mosque and of numerous other initiatives to defend freedom against the encroachment of Islamic law, gives you practical, tested, effective guidance on how freedom lovers can stop Islamic supremacist initiatives in the workplace, the schools, and much more.

As the mainstream media propaganda machine stigmatizes all resistance to Islamization as leading to violence, this guide to lawful and peaceful resistance to Islamization is more urgently needed than ever. It’s also a much-needed wake-up call about a sinister agenda that could do nothing less than destroy the United States – with unique instructions about how we can, and must, work now to defend our nation and our civilization.

Among the startling revelations in this book:

•Startling new information about the full extent of Muslim Brotherhood infiltration in the Department of Justice, and its brazen pro-Muslim activities, including its “Monthly Outreach Meetings” with Muslim and Arab groups at the Civil Rights Division – and the Muslim Brotherhood’s goal of “eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within”

•Close ties between the Justice Department and the Islamic Society of North America, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, and the Muslim Students Association – all linked to the Muslim Brotherhood

•The connections of the organizers of the Ground Zero Mosque to the Muslim Brotherhood

•How the Justice Department is fighting for Sharia in the U.S.

•How public officials in Detroit, New York, San Francisco and elsewhere are kowtowing to Islamic supremacists’ demands to curtail free speech about Islam

•Islamic schools that receive public money – right here in the U.S.

•How the meat you buy at your local supermarket could be halal – even though it is not labeled or advertised as such

•Shocking details of the travesty that is the 9/11 victims memorial: its plans to put the unidentified remains of 9/11 victims seven stories underground inside a museum that charges admission -- and which will include lavish profiles (above ground, of course) of the 9/11 hijackers

•The American Bar Association’s coverup of its work to resist anti-Sharia initiatives

•AFDI’s Threats to Freedom Index: the groups that pose the severest threat to freedom in America today

Author Pamela Geller is the founder, editor and publisher of Atlas Shrugs.com and executive director of the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) and Stop Islamization of America (SIOA). She is author of the acclaimed book The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration’s War on America with Robert Spencer, foreword by Ambassador John Bolton, (Simon & Schuster). Cliff Kincaid of Accuracy In Media declared The Post-American Presidency “the best book on Barack Obama and I’ve read them all.” Geller is also a regular columnist for World Net Daily, Andrew Breitbart's Big Government and Big Journalism, the American Thinker, and other publications.

After leading the fight against the Ground Zero Mosque in 2010, Geller received the Annie Taylor Award for Courage from the David Horowitz Freedom Center. She has been profiled on 60 Minutes and in the New York Times, and has appeared on NBC Nightly News, ABC, CNN, the Sean Hannity Show, the Bill O’Reilly Show, Geraldo, the Mike Huckabee show, and many other programs.

Stop the Islamization of America has been received enthusiastically by some of the nation’s leading freedom fighters:

“The First Amendment’s free-speech guarantee is central to America’s character and our fundamental liberties. Equally important, and stemming from the same philosophical roots, is the Amendment’s twinned protection of religious freedom and its prohibition of establishing religion. These pillars of liberty are under attack around the world, and even here in America. If you want to preserve the Constitution, read this book.” -- John R. Bolton, former US Ambassador to the United Nations, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, and author of Surrender Is Not an Option: Defending America at the United Nations.

“Americans are searching for ways to get involved in stopping the encroachment of Shariah law on the US Constitution and the takeover of our nation by the Muslim Brotherhood. Pamela Geller provides practical steps for every American to get involved in stopping the attack on our nation by the forces of evil. I hope that every concerned American reads and heeds this book.” -- Lt. General Jerry Boykin, former United States Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence, and author of Never

Surrender: A Soldier’s Journey to The Crossroads of Faith and Freedom.

“This book fills an urgent need. Pamela Geller has brought together all her experience fighting the stealth jihad and Islamization to create the first practical guide to stopping the spread of Sharia and Islamic supremacism in America. Every patriot, everyone who loves the freedom we enjoy in America, must get this book and use it to equip themselves for the great struggle that lies ahead.” – Dr. Wafa Sultan, former Muslim and author, A God Who Hates

“Among Westerners dedicated to human rights, freedom of speech and religion, Geller is a forceful and courageous voice, providing in this powerful book a democratic defense to

fight the stealth jihadist threat against civilization.” – Bat Ye’or, eminent historian, author of eight books, including Eurabia: The Euro-Arab Axis; Islam and Dhimmitude: Where Civilizations Collide; The Decline of Eastern Christianity Under Islam: From Jihad to Dhimmitude; and The Dhimmi: Jews and Christians Under Islam

“Only Pamela Geller could have written this book. She has stood on the front lines against Islamic supremacism and Sharia encroachment with unparalleled courage and insight, formulating unique and innovative strategies to put the enemies of freedom on the defensive and fight effectively for human rights. The wisdom she has gleaned from her experience is all here, making this an essential handbook for every freedom fighter.” -- Robert Spencer, author of the New York Times bestsellers The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades) and The Truth About Muhammad

U.K.: Muslim Parents Of Honot Killing Victim Charged With Murder Eight Years After Daughter's Disappearance

From Jihad Watch:

U.K.: Muslim parents of honor killing victim charged with murder 8 years after daughter's disappearance

In some countries, Shafilea Ahmed's parents might have faced little or no punishment under a legal system informed by Islamic law. In Britain, they could not hide forever.

Unfortunately, authorities did miss opportunities to help Shafilea. In 2003, she reported to them that she was in danger of being pushed into a forced marriage in Pakistan. After defying her parents, she disappeared, and was later found dead.

An update on this story. "Muslim parents of 'honour killing victim' schoolgirl, 17, charged with her murder eight years after she vanished," by Jaya Narain for the Daily Mail, September 7:

The parents of suspected honour killing victim Shafilea Ahmed have been charged with their daughter’s murder – eight years after she disappeared.

Shafilea, 17, went missing from her home in September 2003 after complaining that her parents were trying to force her into an arranged marriage.

A massive hunt was launched for the bright A-level student who had dreamed of becoming a lawyer.

Her decomposed body was found in February 2004, hidden near a river in the Lake District.

A coroner ruled that the Muslim teenager had been the victim of a ‘vile murder’.

Iftikhar Ahmed, 51, a taxi driver, and his wife Farzana, 48, were initially arrested on suspicion of kidnapping their daughter in December 2003.

They were questioned by police but were released in June 2004 without charge when the Crown Prosecution Service ruled there was insufficient evidence against them.

The couple were re-arrested on suspicion of murder in September last year but have always denied any involvement in their daughter’s disappearance or death. [...]

The charges are believed to have come after fresh evidence was handed to police by Shafilea’s sister, Alisha, who was two years younger.

She was arrested by police for allegedly masterminding an armed robbery at the family home.

Alisha, who is in the witness protection programme, admitted the charges and is awaiting sentence.

The 22-year-old is believed to have made new claims about her parents’ involvement in Shafilea’s death.

Shafilea, from Warrington, Cheshire, went missing after complaining she was being forced into an arranged marriage.

Police investigating her disappearance discovered she had travelled to Pakistan for what she thought was a family holiday.

But once there she was allegedly told an arranged marriage had been organised for her.

The A-level pupil drank bleach in an apparent suicide attempt while in Pakistan and returned to the UK to continue studying.

Weeks later she disappeared. She was reported missing by a teacher.

After her body was found on the banks of the River Kent in Cumbria, an inquest ruled she had been murdered and a pathologist stated she was likely to have been smothered or strangled.

The coroner said at the time: ‘Shafilea was the victim of a very vile murder and there’s no evidence before the court as to who did it. There are things people know that have not been told to this court....

There Is No Such Thing As "Just A Little Sharia"

From Winds of Jihad:

There is no such thing as “just a little” Sharia.

Don’t worry, go back to sleep, infidel.

Reza Aslan says:

“No American Muslim, zero, absolutely none, not a single one has ever, ever called for the imposition of Shariah in America.” (source)

While hapless Leftist pseudo-journalists continue to swallow his nonsense, he is being exposed at Jihad Watch as he never has been before.

But for all you incurable Islamophobes, here’s another dose of reality:

Germany: “The Islamic parallel justice system is becoming a threat to the constitutional legal system,” “the law is slipping out of our hands”

As has been the case in Britain, Sharia’s proponents got their foot in the door with pleas for just a little Sharia, just for a few community matters. Then, the reality hits that Sharia is a package deal: as even Imam Rauf has noted, “it is not possible in principle to limit the Shari’ah to some aspects of human life and leave out others.”

Parallel Justice

Islamic 'Arbitrators' Shadow German Law

By Maximilian Popp

Hassan Allouche, originally from Lebanon, says he mediates 200 cases a year.

In Wagner's book, judges and prosecutors tell of threats toward public officials and systematic interference with witnesses. "We know we're being given a performance, but the courts are powerless," says Stephan Kuperion, a juvenile court judge in Berlin. Federal public prosecutor Jörn Hauschild warns, "It would be a terrible development if serious criminal offences in these circles could no longer be resolved. The legal system would be reduced to collecting victims."

So who are these men who make the decisions about justice and love, lives and monetary compensation?

'They Trust Me'

Hassan Allouche sits behind the wheel of his station wagon, steering the vehicle through Berlin's rush hour traffic with one hand, talking on his cell phone. Two Arabs have called on him for help in a rent dispute. He lights a cigarette and says, "People are afraid of the authorities. They trust me."

Allouche came to Germany from Lebanon 37 years ago. He acts as a religious arbitrator, just as his great-grandfather did before him. People greet him on the streets of Berlin, shaking his hand or bowing. "He's kept us from a great deal of harm," one Turkish businessman says.

Allouche's brother was shot while trying to resolve a conflict, and since then he always wears a bulletproof vest when doing his work. He says he mediates 200 cases a year, often offers his own services and doesn't ask any payment, although he accepts gifts. "I do this for Germany and for Allah," he says.

Wagner, the journalist, believes that getting rich plays only a minor role for most of these arbitrators. Far more important, he says, are power and prestige, as they increase their influence within the community with each successful mediation.

Although the mediators generally work in secret, "it's common practice," Wagner says, repeating what Ralf Menkhorst, detective superintendent for the city of Essen, has told him. "Any beginner realizes after three cases that this phenomenon exists." Police in Bremen, for example, know of four or five arbitrators by name.

They operate in a gray area between conflict resolution and obstruction of justice. Allouche, for example, claims to work closely with authorities, but investigators suspect him of preventing witnesses from giving statements to the police. So far they've never been able to prove an obstruction of justice.

This culture of arbitration predates Islam, since earlier Arab tribes also solved conflicts with verdicts passed by senior family members. In countries such as Lebanon or in southeastern Turkey, these lay judges still take the place of governmental institutions. In Germany, they find followers wherever the local population includes many Muslims who haven't integrated into German culture.

Ursula Spuler-Stegemann, an Islamic studies professor in Marburg, believes this distance between immigrants and the German state explains the success of religious arbitration. Many immigrants, she says, mistrust police and the legal system. Criminal prosecutors are concerned about extended Muslim families and strict religious groups. "They disdain the rule of law. They haven't integrated, and don't intend to. The family is above the law," Bremen's police write in a working paper.

Munich-based imam and arbitrator Sheik Abu Adam says he considers it a religious duty to mediate among the faithful. He invites both parties to visit him at the mosque, listens to both sides, and ultimately has them sign a peace treaty. The important thing, he says, is not who's right and wrong, and evidence is no particular help -- the important thing is to find a compromise. In nine out of 10 cases, the people respect his decision, he says. "My judgment is fairer than the government's," he says.

A Problem of Integration

Abu Adam teaches a reactionary kind of Islam. He lives with three women, doesn't believe in separating religion from the state, and rejects moderate branches of his religion. "I tell my people, don't go to the police," the sheikh says unabashedly. "We'll take care of this conflict among ourselves." He dismisses accusations of running a shadow justice system, saying, "I'm making less work for the police."

Investigators do cooperate with Islamic arbitrators in a few exceptional cases. In Essen, for example, police and an imam work together to mediate disputes within Muslim families.

If these arbitrators would limit themselves to containing conflicts, there would be no reason to object, says legal and Islamic studies expert Mathias Rohe in the Bavarian city of Erlangen. German law, after all, allows for arbitration. What Rohe finds unacceptable is the exertion of influence over criminal proceedings. "Criminal prosecution is a privilege of the state," he says.

The state justice system, though, is having a hard time shaking off the shadow system. Klaus-Dieter Schromek, a judge in Bremen, criticizes his colleagues for not taking the phenomenon seriously enough. "If conflict mediators manage to force the justice system out of homicides and other serious violent crimes," he told Wagner for the book, "it will mean more conflicts settled using these methods."

Legal steps alone can't prevent a parallel Islamic justice system, not with so many immigrants from Muslim countries who insist on following values retained for centuries -- such as the primacy of men and the unconditional struggle for one's own honor and that of the family. One problem is that they pass on these clichés to their children, so even third-generation members of immigrant families mistrust the German legal system.

"We need to promote our constitutional legal state starting in school," says Rohe, the Islamic studies expert. If German integration were in better shape, he believes, Islamic arbitrators would have been out of work long ago.

Catalan town council imposes 12-month ban on mosque building

No licences for new places of worship will be granted in Salt (Girona) for 12 months. The proposal from mayor Jaume Torramade scrapped plans for a new mosque approved by the previous council.

PIG’S HEAD found buried in the ground of a proposed mosque in Spain

Reacting to the news of the incident, Josep Anglada, president of the Catalan nationalist party, Plataforma per Catalunya (PxC), said:

“I don’t see anything wrong with burying a piglet in an industrial estate. It’s the Muslims who have a problem with pigs, not us. They have problems with pigs and we have problems with them, the same as the dog with the cat and the cat with the mouse. It’s just a question of species compatibility.” (Barenaked: proposed mosque in Spain)

Two are too many

Spain: another town bans the veil

A small town on the Spanish resort island of Mallorca has banned women from wearing burkas or face-covering Islamic veils in public places, even though only two women living there are known to do so.

Mayor Biel Serra of the town of Sa Pobla said last night’s vote was not about cultural or religious discrimination but rather an issue of public safety and having people show their faces so they can be identified. He told the AP today the ban also applies to other face-covering headgear like ski masks.

Sa Pobla joins a handful of other Spanish towns who have enacted some form of ban on body-covering burkas or face-covering niqabs. Biel said the two women in Sa Pobla wore the latter.

Sharia Lobby Shifts Into Fifth Gear

From Europe News:

Sharia Lobby Shifts into 5th Gear

International Analyst Network 8 September 2011

By Alyssa A. Lappen

Sharia advocates desperately want to convince legislators and the public that Islamic law is plain vanilla — and totally nonthreatening to existing U.S. legal codes. Notwithstanding a nationwide Muslim Brotherhood-backed pro-sharia push, nothing could be further from the truth.

"There are many unpleasant doctrines within Islam,” including its "repugnant” criminal code, honor killings, female genital cutting, and a Quranic verse Muslim clerics often cite, proclaiming "wives as a tilth unto you” (2:223), to deny the existence of marital rape. [1]

So allowed sharia professor Sadiq Reza at an Aug. 25-26 New York Law School (NYLS) conference. Any attempt to enforce its criminal code, he added, "would violate Constitutional law.” He insisted, though, that western Muslims don’t "favor” these aspects of Islam and none seek to impose them. Evidence that they do abounds (here, here, here, here, here) but Reza said his broad web search found none.

Northwestern University Islamic law professor Kristen Stilt, too, disdained sharia criticism as "lunacy.” And University of Toronto Islamic law professor Mohammed Fadel referred the audience to a glossy, Soros-funded condemnation of skeptics, breathlessly entitled "Fear, Inc.” to persuade the gullible.

Soon afterward, journalist Joseph Klein recalled some points of Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood "scholar” Yusuf Qaradawi, revered by the Islamic world — and "Fear, Inc.” co-author Wajahat Ali. Qaradawi identifies fully with sharia as described by former CIA director R. James Woolsey and fellow so-called hate mongers headed by Center for Security Policy CEO Frank Gaffney, not Ali and his co-detractors. Qaradawi considers charity "jihad with money, because God has ordered us to fight enemies with our lives and our money,” as I noted in fall 2007. Like the MB-backed Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Qaradawi also seeks to internationally criminalize insults to Islam or Mohammed.

CSP’s sharia description is quite correct — not the "hate” or "lunacy” that Reza, Ali, Stilt and Fadel call it. Sharia is indeed a

"complete way of life” (social, cultural, military, religious, and political), governed from cradle to grave by Islamic law… Shariah is, moreover, a doctrine that mandates the rule of Allah over all aspects of society.”

Despite all sharia’s sobering negatives, orchestrated campaigns to hype it and smear its critics — with Reza in a vocal role — have worked their expected magic. Days after NYLS’s pro-sharia confab, in a Sept. 2 New York Times op-ed, Yale assistant professor Eliyahu Stern dutifully parroted the line of former Harvard Custodian of Two Holy Mosques prof. Frank Vogel, who thinks sharia "quite brilliant.” (On Sept. 3, its shine likewise compelled an unasked Dutch cleric, to "invite” Queen Beatrix to Islam.)

One might think a Yale assistant professor or the Times would check their facts prior to publication. One would be wrong. True enough, over 12 U.S. states are currently considering legislation that would outlaw using laws alien to U.S. foundational precepts in American courts. But Stern misspoke. A "bill recently passed by the Tennessee General Assembly equates Shariah with a set of rules that promote ‘the destruction of the national existence of the United States’,” he incorrectly groused.

Stern cited the summary of a proposed Tennessee bill version not actually passed into law. The real banana, Material Support to Designated Entities Act of 2011 (House Bill No. 1353), signed into Tennessee law Jun. 16, 2011 to amend its criminal code on terrorism, never once mentions the words "sharia,” "Muslim,” "Islam,” or "Islamic law.” Nor does American and Tennessee Laws for Tennessee Courts, House Bill No. 3768, signed into Tennessee Public Chapter 983 in May 2010, to address foreign laws containing discriminatory or unequal precepts or clauses otherwise alien to U.S. and state civil, criminal and Constitutional laws and public policies.Yet — evidently, without any independent study of sharia — Stern admonished its U.S. critics to forgo their Constitutional rights to free speech, and worse, allow and accept U.S. court recognition of Islamic law.

But also on Sept. 2, the American Islamic Leadership Coalition (ALIC) endorsed Michigan’s proposed HB4769 version of American Laws for American Courts.

Though apparently oblivious, in assuming a pro-sharia position, Stern effectively accepted a 7th century sharia dictate intended to suppress second class, non-Muslim subjects (dhimmis): Islamic rule prohibits non-Muslims especially, at dire risk, from criticizing Mohammed, Islam or sharia, what most Muslims project as divine, perfect, immutable — and indivisible — laws. (Several conference speakers unwittingly echoed Qaradawi and, while lauding sharia, also noted Islam’s total ban on its criticism.)

Put another way, the professors want American non-Muslim critics to comply with sharia and shut up (...)

Why The Muslim Beard Bodes Trouble

From Pajamas Media and Europe News:

Why the Muslim Beard Bodes Trouble

Pajamas Media 8 September 2011

By Raymond Ibrahim

To develop a thorough understanding of Islam, one must learn to "connect the dots.” For instance, Muslims who adhere to non-problematic aspects of Islam, indirectly indicate their acceptance of problematic aspects of Islam — such as enmity for infidels, death for apostates, subjugation for women, and so on.

Consider the Muslim beard. Because Muhammad wanted his Muslims to look different from infidel Christians and Jews, he ordered them to "trim closely the moustache and grow the beard.” Accordingly, all Sunni schools of law maintain that it is forbidden, a "major sin,” for men to shave their beards — unless, of course, it is part of a stratagem against the infidel, in which case it is permissible.

Prior to Ramadan, Islamic leaders in Egypt called for a million men to grow their beards and show Egypt’s adherence to Muhammad’s commands. Popular and enthusiastic preachers such as Muhammad Hassan went as far as to pray for the day when 80 million Egyptians grew their beards — a figure that presumably includes women and children, as 80 million is the size of Egypt’s entire population.

Amr Adib, a popular talk show host on Cairo Today, mocked this call for a "million man beard” with his trademark sarcasm: "This is a great endeavor! After all, a man with a beard can never be a thug, can never rape a woman in the street, can never set a church on fire, can never fight and quarrel, can never steal, and can never be dishonest!”

He and his Egyptian viewers know quite well that it is precisely those Muslims who most closely follow the minutia of Muhammad — the Salafists — that are most prone to violence and deceit, which were also advocated by the prophet. Towards the end of the program, Adib spoke seriously, ominously, saying this issue is not about growing a beard, but rather, "once you grow your beard, you give proof of your commitment and fealty to everything in Islam.”

Athens Mosque Gets Green Light

From Europe News:

Athens mosque gets green light

ekathimerini.co 8 September 2011

Parliament’s approval on Wednesday of a law regulating illegal buildings paved the way for the construction of the Greek capital’s first modern mosque in the Athenian neighborhood of Votanikos.

The law on illegal constructions, which also includes a clause giving the go-ahead for a mosque, was voted through with 198 votes out of 300 in favor from the center, right and left, against 16 objections from MPs from the nationalist Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS). The prospect of a mosque in Athens is vehemently opposed by right-wing and nationalist parties and groups, the latter of which have launched numerous attacks against groups of Muslims in recent months, especially in central Athens, where the vast majority lives.

The passing of the law satisfies a longstanding demand for an official place of worship from the country’s growing Muslim population, whose needs to date have been accommodated by makeshift mosques in apartments or disused warehouses. It also puts Athens -- the only capital from among the original 15 member states of the European Union not to have a mosque -- in line with its European peers. (...)

The Muslim "Overtaking" Of France: As Mosques And As Faithful

From The Vatican Insider and Europe News:

The Muslim "Overtaking" of France: as Mosques and as Faithful

Vatican Insider 8 September 2011

By Marco Tosatti

Rome: In France there are more Islamic mosques being built, and more frequently, than Catholic churches, and there are more practicing Muslims than practicing Catholics in the country.

Nearly 150 new mosques are currently being built in France, home to the largest Islamic community in Europe. The projects are in various stages of completion, according to Moahmmed Moussaoui, President of the Muslim Council of France, who provided this data in an interview on August 2 with RTL radio.

The total number of mosques in France has already doubled to exceed 2,000 in the last ten years, according to a research entitled: "Building mosques: the government of Islam in France and Holland." The best known French Islamic leader, Dalil Boubakeur, Rector of Great Mosque of Paris recently suggested that the total number of mosques should double, to 4,000, to meet the growing demand.

Instead, the Catholic Church in France has only twenty new churches built in the last ten years, and formally closed more than 60 churches, many of which could become mosques, according to research conducted by the French Catholic daily La Croix.

Although 64% of the French population (41.6 million people, out of about 65 million inhabitants) are defined as Roman Catholic, only 4.5% (about 1.9 million people) are practicing Catholics, according to the French Institute of Public Opinion (IFOP).

Also in the field of comparison, 75% (4.5 million) of the approximately 6 million Muslims of North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa in France are identified as "believers", and 41% (about 2.5 million) claim to be "practitioners", according to a report posted on Islam in France by the IFOP on August 1 of last year. Research says that more than 70% of French Muslims claimed to have observed Ramadan in 2011.

Putting these elements side by side furnishes empirical evidence of the claim that Islam is on its way to overtaking Roman Catholicism as the dominant religion in France. As the numbers grow, the Muslims in France are becoming more assertive than ever before. A case for all groups: Muslims in France are asking the Catholic Church for permission to use its empty churches as a tool to solve the traffic problems caused by thousands of Muslims who pray in the street.

In a statement on March 1, addressed to the Church in France, National Federation of the Great Mosque of Paris, the French Council of Muslim Democrats and Islamist group called Collectif Banlieues Respect asked the Catholic Church, in a spirit of inter-religious solidarity, to allow the empty churches to be used by Muslims for Friday prayers, so that Muslims "are not forced to pray in the street" or "be held hostage by the politicians." Every Friday, thousands of Muslims in Paris and other French towns close roads and sidewalks (and consequently, block local trade, and trap the non-Muslim residents in homes and offices) to accommodate the faithful who are unable to enter the mosque for Friday prayers. Some mosques have started to broadcast sermons and chants of "Allahu Akbar" in the streets. These hardships have caused anger and reactions, but despite many official complaints, authorities have not intervened so far in fear of igniting incidents. The issue of illegal street prayers reached the top of the French political agenda in December 2010 when Marine Le Pen, the new charismatic leader of the National Front, denounced the occurrence "an occupation without troops or tanks."

During a meeting in the city of Lyon, Le Pen compared the Islamic prayers in the streets to the Nazi occupation. He said: "For those who like to talk a lot of the Second World War, we can also talk about this problem (the Islamic prayers in the street, ed), because it is an occupation of territory. It is an occupation of sections of land, of districts in which religious law enters into force. It is an occupation. Of course there are no tanks or soldiers, but nevertheless it is an occupation and weighs heavily on residents." (...)

Remembering Muslim Colonialism On September 11th

From Canada Free Press and Europe News:

Remembering Muslim Colonialism on September 11

Canada Free Press 8 September 2011

By Daniel Greenfield

Anyone who cared to dig through the graveyards of Sudan already knew that Muslims mattered more than Africans to us. The sky full of jets that we dispatched to bomb Yugoslavia on behalf of Muslim terrorists never clouded the skies of Khartoum. But they did show up to bomb Tripoli so that Islamist thugs could begin torturing and murdering Africans.

In the left’s pyramid of races, some matter more than others, and Arabs are higher than Africans. So much higher that Sudan is piled with corpses, but the mere thought of Islamist rebels losing in Libya was enough to send in the air forces of bankrupt Western countries already tied up in too many places.

The primacy of the Arab Muslim over the African Christian is a recent thing in the liberal landscape born in part of realpolitik and the red enthusiasm for revolutionary violence. It is a thing which almost no one discusses because it has gone unnoticed. The racial vocabulary of it is one that few are even able to read.

Most still process Obama as an African-American, but while his father was from Africa and he spent part of his life in America—he is not African-American, because he is not the conjunction of the two. His heritage was Muslim, and so was his Indonesian upbringing at the hands of one of the participants in the genocide of East Timor Christians.

Obama’s books studiously attempt to mimic the questions of African-American identity in a painfully literary style that reveals its artificiality. Obama’s compulsive borrowing of uncredited quotes from African-American writers and poets shows that same pursuit of authenticity, which always escapes him.

Arab-Muslim colonialism has been a going concern for over a thousand years

Still to most Americans race comes down to skin color, not culture, and the left believes fervently in the brotherhood of all "brown people” confronting white supremacy, an absurd European leftist construct of little relevance in a continent where European colonialism was a flash in the plan, but Arab-Muslim colonialism has been a going concern for over a thousand years.

The overthrow of Khaddafi by Islamist rebels backed by Western jets is yet another victory for Muslim colonialism in Africa, which is being celebrated with massacres of Africans. Political and media elites in the West who are besotted with Muslim democracy can’t see past their theories of political history in which every country ends up just like them to understand the real conflicts in the region.

Even Belgium at the heart of the EU is hardly a poster child for harmony with the Flemish and the Walloons, not to mention the Basque terrorism in Spain and the IRA in Northern Ireland as reminders that ethnic conflicts have not gone away even in Europe where there is far less at stake.

It’s only 70 miles from the Italian island of Lampedusa to Tunisia, but the distance in history is far greater than the boat trip made by so many refugees. It’s the difference between a continent where ethnic conflicts are primarily linguistic and political, and a continent where they are genocidal.

The Holocaust was the last zero sum ethnic conflict in Western Europe, where the political forces that had resented their loss of power in the last two centuries finally got their chance to vent their fury on the ethnic minority whose emancipation had come to represent everything they hated about the rise of the republics. But Muslim immigration is bringing the zero sum conflict back to Europe.

Terrorism, riots, murders and rapes are the traditional brutal way that ethnic conflicts play out, and the introduction of Islam to Europe

Terrorism, riots, murders and rapes are the traditional brutal way that ethnic conflicts play out, and the introduction of Islam to Europe, has added layers of furious Pakistanis, Algerians, Turks, Somalis and others on top of the fading ethnic conflicts of native Europeans. The fate of Northern Ireland or the linguistic perils of Belgium are likely to matter very little when the majority of children speak Urdu, and the Orange and the Green give way to the Green and the Black.

But Europe is only beginning to experience a slice of what everyday life is like in parts of Nigeria, India or Israel. And as bad as the No Go Zones of Paris, the rapes of Oslo or the mosques of Munich may seem, it’s only the beginning of a road which ends in the graveyards of Sudan or the ghettos of Yemen.

After bombing Libya, we have made it safe for the Muslim colonialists to massacre the continent’s native Africans

North Africa was colonized long before the French got there, it remains colonized long after DeGaulle waxed his mustache and put on his best Petain act for the Muslims of Algeria. After bombing Libya, we have made it safe for the Muslim colonialists to massacre the continent’s native Africans… in the name of democracy, human rights and the rest of that nonsense. Meanwhile the massacres continue in Sudan, despite all the backpatting over South Sudan, and they will continue because this is the nature of the beast.

If bombs are still going off in Northern Ireland and Spain, then why would anyone seriously expect that the lamb would lie down with the jackal in North Africa? Religious conflicts in the Islam are settled only when the winners have wiped out the losers or beaten them down so much that the losers are treated as being outside Islam and live as Dhimmis. And conflicts between Muslim colonists and the natives are fought in the same manner, except that the losers are expected to convert or live as second-class citizens in their own country.

Muslim colonialism is behind the endless conflict in Israel where the successful uprising of a minority group has turned the attention of the entire Muslim Ummah to stamping it out—with the support of the European and American left, and the increasing sympathy of their governments. And second and third generation Israelis who still occasionally visit Auschwitz but fail to understand that this is what zero sum ethnic conflicts look like when you’re the minority with no territory to stand on have accepted their portrayal as the villains for all the wrong reasons.

The Western message is that whether you’re Black or Jewish—you matter less than a Muslim does. Your life is worth less than that of a Muslim. Your political aspirations are worth less than theirs are and your national rights are infinitely inferior to theirs. This message was sent before Obama and before September 11, but it has become louder after both of those events. The illusion of parity is completely gone.

Obama will turn a blind eye to the Libyan Arab massacres of Africans

Western military intervention in Kuwait and Yugoslavia was followed by atrocities that were rarely reported on. Kuwait’s ethnic cleansing and Kosovar ethnic cleansing of Christians were directly approved of by the Bush and Clinton administrations as being within the rights of the people we had fought for. Obama, a man that even most African-Americans wrongly think of as one of them, will turn a blind eye to the Libyan Arab massacres of Africans as he has all along.

President Ford and Secretary of State Kissinger encouraged and covered up the beginnings of Muslim genocide of Christians in East Timor. So did Carter and every president after him. By the time Obama appointed Dennis Blair, who had played a key role in keeping the slaughter going even on the cusp of the 21st century, as the Director of National Intelligence, and made his own Bitburg visit to Indonesia—these latest obscenities were the continuation of an ongoing national policy that valued the national rights and lives of Muslims higher than those of their victims.

Muslim colonialism destroys the histories, the cultures and the lives of millions

From Asia to Africa to the Middle East, the story remains the same. Muslim colonialism destroys the histories, the cultures and the lives of millions—and the world nods sympathetically. Resistance to Muslim colonialism is harshly quashed, whether it’s in Cote d’Ivoire in Africa, courtesy of the UN and the IMF, or the streets of London where the bobbies who couldn’t do much about the rioters are always available to shut down protest marches that might offend Muslims.

The Ground Zero Mosque is no different than the Al-Aqsa Mosque built on top of the holiest site in Judaism, or the Babri Mosque built on top of the destroyed Hindu temple of Rama. And the attacks of September 11 were no different than the piles of butchered Africans in Sudan or the Israeli family slaughter in their own home. All of them are the bloody toll of Muslim colonialism which will keep on going until it is stopped.

Muslim colonialism will only be stopped when we confront it for what it is, the brutal spree of an ideology that claims supremacy through religion, which whines incessantly even as it butchers leaving a trail of corpses across continents, subjugated cultures, burning cars, destroyed memorials and shattered lives.

Obama insists that September 11 should be a day of community service—and he’s right. The best way to serve our community is to stand up to those who would destroy it and turn our children and grandchildren into second class citizens in their own country.

Standing up to Muslim colonialism is not done on just a single day by a single people, it is up to everyone on every single continent, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Zoroastrians, Atheists and even those Muslims who know that things have to change, to stand up in resistance. It is up to us to deny the lie that the lives of Muslims, their political aspirations and their power is worth more than ours.

It is up to us to write, to speak out, to protest and to tell the truth about over a thousand years of terror and the story of our ancestors of every religion and race who resisted them, who struck a blow against Muslim colonialism, whether it was by fighting, by teaching the next generation or by simply surviving. By continuing their resistance, we honor them and their sacrifices.

That is the best way to honor the dead, whether of September 11, or of every day in every year when our ancestors and our people have been oppressed and in many cases remain oppressed by Muslim colonialism. And it is the best way to serve our communities by protecting their future and showing that we will continue their resistance into the future. We will not give up. We will not go away. And we will not submit.

The Text Of A Speech By Oskar Freysinger

Text of Oskar Freysinger’s Speech

Gates of Vienna 8 September 2011

By Oskar Freysinger

Below is the full text of Oskar Freysinger’s speech in Berlin last Saturday, as translated by JLH. Note: Mr. Freysinger departed from the prepared text when he spoke, so this version differs slightly from what can be heard in the video and audio recordings.

A full report on the day’s events is here.

Speech by Oskar Freysinger in Berlin

September 3, 2011

Berlin is worth a trip. Especially today. Especially here. Because here and now an important signal is being given to the peoples of Europe. The signal for a European Spring! To offset the autumn mood in the EU. So that, instead of the mood of doom, finally a mood of awakening will come. An awakening in the name of freedom!

Yes, yes, cherished FREIHEIT! That is also the name of the party here in Germany that offers an alternative to bureaucratism, centralism, loss of democracy, uncontrolled immigration and Islamization. An alternative to self-destruction.

My dear Berlin friends, I come to you today as a neighbor. And as a concerned friend.

Since I am a citizen of a small country which is put under greater and greater pressure by the EU, it is near to my heart to support the truly democratic forces in the EU conglomerate. Only if these forces prevail can I hope that the Great Power pretensions of the EU will be abandoned and its relationship to Switzerland will at last be shaped in the way it should be between civilized and respectful neighbors.

Freedom is one of the democratic forces I count on. But why does the EU exert this kind of massive pressure — economically, financially and politically — on my country? Is it arrogance? Greed? Envy? All of those may apply, but the true reason lies deeper.

The EUSSR will no longer tolerate the existence of a small country in the heart of the continent, whose people still want to decide their own fate. A prudent, little bit of a folk that has thus far withstood the over-indebtedness which is playing hell with the states reined in by globalization.

For that is the goal of all global financial institutions and international monetary funds: The weakening of nation-states in order to lead them to their dubious “good fortune.” The wealth of peoples is destroyed en masse, so that the weakened states can be reduced to willing agents of a global dogma.

We Swiss hate every form of paternalism! We want no patronizing, no foreign judges! Our citizens are independent and imaginative enough to take their fate into their own hands.

Just picture this: On the southern border of Germany is a country in which 53% of the people have voted for deportation of criminal aliens; a land in which every minor rise in the VAT must be approved by referendum. Who is surprised that the VAT is still at 8% in Switzerland while it has reached 20% in the EU?

A study by the French economic expert Yvan Blot demonstrates that where state

affairs are voted on directly and democratically, the rates of duties and taxes are on average 30% lower than where state affairs are decided exclusively on administrative and policy grounds.

We watch our own wallets more carefully than other people’s money. There lies the future of the continent. Not in further expansion of a bureaucratic and centralized monster that will one day swallow its own children.

In Switzerland, the power is still in the hands of the people. We Helvetians were able to vote on entry to the EU… and wisely looked the other way. In retrospect, this decision has proven to be a great good fortune.

How did that work in Germany? Elites distanced from the people decided for the people. The same elite who introduced the euro, which, at one blow, caused a 30% loss of purchasing power for the average German citizen.

In Switzerland, the possible introduction of the euro had to be approved by the people. You can just picture the result.

Of course, the strong Franc would then be no problem for our export economy, but we would be stuck in the euro trap like the others and would have to bleed financially for a completely broken-down statist system, just as the German taxpayer has been doing for years. Better to stay flexible and economically independent.

Direct democracy means that the optional or obligatory referendum underlies every law proposed by parliament, and nothing can be decided over the heads of the people. Direct democracy means that determined citizens can launch initiatives with 100,000 signatures, which must be put before the people. This gives political decisions much greater legitimacy than the usual parliamentary resolutions. No one in Switzerland would think of questioning a decision by referendum which was approved by 50-70%. What the people have decided is valid and everyone has to adhere to that, Period. Even the administration. Especially the administration.

That is how it was with the famous/notorious anti-minaret initiative in which I was the anti-muezzin. 58% of the Swiss population decided in November, 2009 to prevent the occupation of public space by the dominating symbols of a religious dogma.

This decision by the last free population in Europe had a signal effect. In its wake, decisions were made about the veiling of women in France and Belgium and the construction of a Saudi-financed giant mosque in Norway was prevented. The dhimmi attitude of Europeans sustained a wound which must not heal over, if the millennia-old European civilization is to survive.

For Europe is more than a plot of land, more than a continent, more than the sum of its countries. Europe is an idea, a cultural landscape, an intellectual space shaped by history. Europa is the cradle of the modern constitutional state, the treasure-house of human rights, of freedom of opinion and expression.

This is ever more strongly endangered by the possibility that our political elite will bend their necks before a religious dogma that is alien to our intellectual history, our values and our constitutional state.

This dogma is gnawing away at the pillars of our system of laws, wherever it is allowed some space. This dogma demands total obedience from its followers. They are in no case to integrate into our value system. That would be like treason and can even be punished with death. They are expected to conquer our intellectual home, make the Western world subject. Not with tanks, rockets or riflemen. Not through brutal revolution.

No, Islam is in no hurry. It has an eternity.

A long process of softening up and leisurely occupation of our weakening, child-poor society is foreseen. The Islamic doctrine is expected to gradually creep into everyday life and Fortress Europe will crumble from within. Just think of how the Serbs lost Kosovo. Through demographic development and the help of NATO, which brought about the founding of the first Islamic state on European ground. What an ominous sign.

The Islamic dogma is succeeding everywhere. In Turkey, the Islamists are gradually occupying all judicial and army posts, in order to obliterate the heritage of Kemal Atatürk. Lebanon will become an Islamic state in the next decades, The Arab Spring is on the point of being taken over by the Islamists. In Iraq, in Egypt and in Pakistan, the last Christian communities are facing extinction,

And what are we doing? We are allowing this violent doctrine, unhindered in cultural ghettos, to strain at toppling the nation of laws. We just shrug our shoulders when girls are forced into marriage and Muslims willing to integrate are pressured and threatened. When women are beaten and whole city districts are taken over, we look the other way. We believe we can soften the power hunger of the holy warriors with welfare money.

We believe we can buy peace! What lunacy! No one fingers the Prophet’s beard. Fanatics cannot be bought. Germany should know that better than any other country in the world.

My dear friends in the audience, we are not fighting against people, we are fighting for people! We are fighting against a dogma that is anathema to every aspect of humanity and would like to lead us back into barbarism. We do not intend to give up the freedom we have fought so hard for over the centuries.

Dear Berliners, here I stand, and I cannot do otherwise, lest soon no human being in this Europe will be able to take the responsibility for what represents the pillar of our culture, of our system of law and of our humanity: transcendent, unconditional love of neighbor.

If we lose this battle, there will be no second chance, for Islam does not give back what it has conquered. So I summon all the humanists of this continent not to keep their heads in the sand and to resist the Islamic dogma’s drive to conquest. Let us stand together and uncompromisingly insist upon the primacy of our civil law over any religious dogma. Let us find our way back to our precious intellectual heritage.

Islam is only as strong as we are weak.

Let us oppose it with more than McDonald’s, soap operas, stupefying TV programs and brutal video games. Our culture has so much more to offer. Let us get back to depth and endurance, to organic growth. Let us stay alert and critical, so long as even a grain of Socrates lives on in us. Let us no longer subject our spirit to the dictates of the material. Only that way can we prevent brutal power politics being spread in the name of religion. Only that way do we have chance to leave our children a peaceful Europe, shaped by respect and dignity.

Long live die Freiheit! (Long live freedom!)

Thilo Sarrazin, Author Of Germany Abolishes Itself, One Year Later

From Gates of Vienna and Europe News:

Thilo Sarrazin, One Year Later

Gates of Vienna 8 September 2011

A year ago the German banker and Social Democrat Thilo Sarrazin caused a stir in Germany — and the rest of Europe — when he wrote the book Germany Abolishes Itself. As a man of the Left, his criticism of Muslim immigration created more uproar than it would have if it had been written by a "right-wing extremist”. The scandal was intensified by his assertion that mass Muslim immigration is lowering the average IQ of the German population.

On the occasion of the first anniversary of the publication of his book, Die Zeit interviewed Thilo Sarrazin. Many thanks to JLH for the translation:

"Wow, This Sarrazin!”

Encounters with "head-scarf girls” and other fans: The best-selling author and Social Democrat, Thilo Sarrazin, on the year that has changed his life.

Superficially, it is like our interview of exactly a year ago. Thilo Sarrazin enters the capitol office of Die Zeit. This time he does not have a backpack, but a brown briefcase and in it his book and a red Lever Arch file with articles on intelligence, press articles, material, so he can be — as he says — forearmed for all questions. But Sarrazin will only open the file one time. We did not want to argue with him again about his thesis. We wanted to know something else: what has the past year been like? And incidentally: what has he done with his money? What indeed, in a year of change in energy policy? He has remodeled his house into an eco-house.

Zeit:

Has the Sarrazin debate changed Thilo Sarrazin?

Sarrazin:

Yes, naturally. Everyone is happy to be successful. At any rate, I would never have thought — not even last year when you interviewed me — that questions that occupy me also occupy so many other people. Whether I gave the right answers, that is another question.

Zeit:

And how has the debate changed you?

Sarrazin:

I have lost some of my illusions concerning whether the human being is good or not. I have also become harder.

Zeit:

In regard to the subject of integration?

Sarrazin:

In regard to myself, as concerns the world and how it works. Before, there were some bright spots. They are somewhat dimmed down.

Zeit:

Do you have more friends or fewer friends than before the appearance of your book?

Sarrazin:

I still have all of my old friends and I have gained some new ones. When — a few days before the advance copies, Federal Bank president Axel Weber pushed for my dismissal from the board and the SPD chair decided on my ouster, when the Federal President and Chancellor commented negatively — that upset me a little. I had never intended to put my civil reputation and my work at the Bank at risk. I called old friends and asked: Did you buy my book? Read it and give me an honest reaction. Every reply had the same thrust: We see this or that differently, but we do not find anything offensive or bad in it.

Zeit:

There has never been so much talk about Muslims and Germans and between Muslims and Germans in the Federal Republic as in this Sarrazin year. Have you performed a service in respect to integration?

Sarrazin:

There are interesting indicators for that. My party colleague and sometime friend, Heinz Buschkowsky…

Zeit:

…district mayor of Berlin-Neukölln…

Sarrazin:

…was despised and ridiculed in much of the Berlin SPD. In leadership circles he and his concerns were the butt of jokes. When they wanted to expel me from the party, they needed a recognized critic of integration. That was the revival of Heinz Buschkowsky. He thanked me for that.

Zeit:

Have you become better acquainted with Muslims in the past year?

Sarrazin:

We had an exchange about that in our last interview.

Zeit:

But that was before the publication of your book.

Sarrazin:

Correct. At that time, I told you that the analysis of statistical indicators of attitude toward integration is independent of whether you personally know some of those being investigated. Excuse the rather daring comparison: If Edward O. Wilson is writing about social habits of ants, he need not have spoken to any one ant personally.

Zeit:

Let’s not argue about your propositions. Let’s discover how you have experienced this last year.

Sarrazin:

I did not systematically seek out acquaintances among Muslims, but I had a series of experiences. I traveled a lot and in train stations, two or three times, young men of obvious Turkish or Arabic origin confronted me aggressively. When they saw me in the train they hit their fists against the window.

Zeit:

Apparently you have become a cult figure or integration icon.

Sarrazin:

It varies a great deal. I get many positive responses from integrated Turks. Recently, when I was in Berlin-Neukölln for a TV broadcast, a couple of young girls in headscarves approached me: "Are you Sarrazin? Do you think we are stupider than the others?” I said that I had never said that. Anyway, then they began joking: "May we take a picture?”

Zeit:

It sounds as if the girls managed to rattle you.

Sarrazin:

(laughs) Usually I get along well with women.

Zeit:

How was it for you when "headscarf girls” spoke to you?

Sarrazin:

It was hilarious.

Zeit:

Admit it, you liked it.

Sarrazin:

A young woman with a headscarf sat in my course in Speyer. At the end of the semester, she came to me and said, That was a good lecture, but can I not perhaps see the matter of the headscarf differently? I said, "If you want to wear a headscarf at the age of 26, I will do nothing to stop you.”

Zeit:

Have you thought: Well, OK, maybe "headscarf girls” aren’t "produced,” perhaps they are made now and then with love?

Sarrazin:

Children develop as they develop….

Zeit:

Oh, I see…

Sarrazin:

…There was one more interesting encounter. At the end of December, the federal center for political education brought me together for a talk with eight Arabic and Turkish graduates of the Otto Hahn comprehensive school in Neukölln. Four girls, four boys. All four girls were wearing headscarves. One of them looked at me boldly and asked what she could do to integrate better, I said: "You speak perfect German. If you take off the headscarf, you will look like an Italian or a Spaniard. In Germany, you are automatically integrated. You consciously set yourself off from the majority population by your choice of clothing. You want people to notice that you are different.”

She answered: No, the headscarf was required by her religion. With my smattering of knowledge, I replied: "The Koran does not demand the headscarf. It is possible to be a good Muslim without a headscarf.”

The eight graduates stirred, they all denied that. They said, you have to observe the clothing requirements strictly. Finally, I asked: "So you believe that all the requirements in the Koran are absolutely valid?” All of them said yes. Then again me: "In the Koran it says that a man can have four wives,” and I asked the bold girl, What if you husband has four other wives besides you? She: "If he treats all of us alike, that is all right.”

The director, who was sitting off to the side, almost sank into the floor. The four boys thought that was great. "It’s clear that you like that, " I called over to them. They grinned. And after that, they all wanted their picture taken with me. Again.

Zeit:

What impression has the revolution in the Arabic world made on you?

Sarrazin:

Basically, I think that anything that loosens up the petrified conditions in the Near East cannot be bad. But you can only evaluate a revolution at the end.

Zeit:

Were you surprised that Muslims threw off their dictators?

Sarrazin:

I fear that Islamist regimes will form in most of these countries. What is rising up there is not an intellectual and educated class. The yeast of the uprising is the young people who did not want things to go on as they are; who wanted to have access to the internet and Facebook

Zeit:

…who are educated, who speak English.

Sarrazin:

As I said, it s not just the educated and intellectual class who are rising up. In the second phase of a revolution, those who get a chance are the radical, the unscrupulous and the more well-organized. I cannot predict, but I think it is likely that we will soon see Islamist-dominated governments.

Zeit:

Is Islam’s capacity for democracy an open question for you, or not?

Sarrazin:

I have the impression, at any rate, that democracy is in retreat in Turkey and the religious fundamentalists are increasing. I will read you a quote from Prime Minister Erdogan (pulls the file folder out of his briefcase): "Democracy is like a streetcar. When you reach your stop, you get off. Thank God that we are adherents of sharia. Our goal is the Islamic state.”

Zeit:

What is that you are quoting?

Sarrazin:

A flyer from Pax Europa.

Zeit:

Mr. Sarrazin, pardon me. Do you work with rightist populist sources on the internet? That i not up to your standard.

Sarrazin:

The quote is correct, even if it is in a defamatory pamphlet. I know similar comments by Erdogan from other connections.

Zeit:

What did you feel when you heard about the killing in Norway? And what did you think when SPO chair Sigmar Gabriel mentioned your name in this connection?

Sarrazin:

The attack struck me as it did everyone else — I was shocked. Shortly after that, I flew to Australia where I gave two speeches. BILD magazine called me there and read me Gabriel’s comment. All I said was: Apparently Sigmar Gabriel has not gotten over his embarrassing defeat before the party’s court,

Zeit:

Ha, ha!

Sarrazin:

Fine, but I have not commented on the thing itself. Recently, the writer Chaim Noll wrote: If the federal president says, Islam belongs in Germany, then criticism of Islam also belongs in Germany. I thought that was well said. If criticism of Islam is not possible, there is this stifling atmosphere where you feel that you and your opinions are persecuted, stonewalled and oppressed. Where there is argument, there is at least a draft passing through. And where there is a draft, there are at least no small niches where there a stink hangs.

Zeit:

Your opponents were not always treated tolerantly at your readings. Did you sometimes feel uncomfortable with your supporters?

Sarrazin:

For the most part I have a public that is very, well-disposed to me, even to some degree fanatically. Among them at times are right-leaning figures. However, I notice that immediately from their questions and don’t let them come to anything. A typically silly question is — should foreigners be deported. I always say that the Turks who are here and are working have a right to stay. They are here legally.

I remember only one event where an opponent was shouted down. It was a panel discussion in Munich. Participants were the sociologist Armin Nassehi and the editor-in-chief of the trade journal, Gabor Steingart. The latter had obviously not read my book, which naturally annoyed me. The thrust of his argument was: The business with intelligence and heredity was complete nonsense. I answered that rather sharply, and there was naturally applause. The people in the audience did not understand the fine points of intelligence research. They perceived only one thing: Steingart was peeing on Sarrazin and Sarrazin returned fire sharply. Steingart was shouted down. I watched it calmly and thought, he would just have to put up with it.

Zeit:

Again: "Haha.”

Sarrazin:

I have been shouted down often in my life. It is something that can be handled.

Zeit:

Do you regret anything?

Sarrazin:

I was also a strong finance minister because I could stand it when almost everyone had a different opinion. But that only went so far. After this past year, I understood how the Soviet Union turned its prisoners and coerced them into false confessions. The person must be isolated long enough and continuously exposed to certain accusations. In the end, he will confess to the craziest things. At first, I felt under great pressure. Then I noticed that I had a number of strong supporters. I reviewed again and again. Where did someone catch me in a mental error? Where did I make a factual mistake? Where did I misconstrue the matter? That did not happen.

Zeit:

If we were not doing an interview, but a portrait, it would show: Thilo Sarrazin sees himself unrefuted but he is just a little bitter and lonesome.

Sarrazin:

I am actually not bitter, nor am I lonesome.

Zeit:

You said you have no illusions today.

Sarrazin:

Yes, but that is not bitterness. You know many things, but could wish they weren’t true, because the world is much nicer otherwise.

Zeit:

But the German world is really not so bad. Just look at our European neighbors. In the matter of integration too.

Sarrazin:

I have my doubts about that. Besides, if the Germans are so fine, then it is because they tend toward pessimism and self-criticism. They see problems where others suspect nothing. That is why German engineers are so good. The people in Germany who ruminate most and commit suicide are the Swabians. Not for no reason were they always in the forefront of innovation and the spirit of reform.

But there are also signs of decline. Jürgen Baumert, the educational researcher, wrote recently: Educational achievement in Baden-Württemberg will decrease because of the rapidly rising percentage of immigrants in the population.

Zeit:

If that is true, then there can only be one result — we all have to try that much harder. Where does your life go from here? You can’t top your bestseller. Do you intend to write a new book anyway?

Sarrazin:

Certainly I will write something else in my lifetime. But when and what, I leave open.

Zeit:

How about "Germany is Actually Not Destroying Itself”?

Sarrazin:

(laughs) You won’t get that out of me.
