Last night while Copts of Egypt were celebrating the feast of Epiphany a mob of 200 Muslim Salifis and Muslim Brotherhood attacked Copts in Rahmaniya-Kebly, Nag Hammadi, Qena province located in Upper Egypt. The attack resulted in destroying and torching Coptic homes, agriculture products and businesses while chanting Allahu Akbar. According to reports, security forces and fire fighters were present but did not intervene due to mob’s blocking their vehicles.
An eye-witness indicated that the reason behind this new violence and aggression against Coptic community was to clear the area for the construction of a mosque.
The village already has one church and over 300 mosques.
On the other hand, the Village’s Coptic residents indicated that the reason behind the violence was due to the parliamentary elections.
The village population is 20,000, and the Copts make up fifty percent of it.
In order to prevent Copts from voting, Muslim Salafi planned the aggression against Copts.
