BERLIN – Germany's federal prosecutor January 2 charged an Afghan citizen living in Germany of propagandising terrorism. Omid H., 22, was arrested in July, according to a January 10 statement on the prosecutor's website.

From July 2010 through June 2011, Omid and his accomplices allegedly posted 59 messages, photos and videos of an extremist nature on the Islamic Brotherhood website, according to the investigation.

In particular, Omid and his accomplices allegedly urged site visitors to fight "the enemies of Islam" and to kill "infidels," the prosecutor's office said on its website. The suspects were acting in the interests of al-Qaeda and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, investigators said.

Omid also is accused of recruiting new terrorists in 20 postings to the Islamic Brotherhood site. The prosecutor charged Omid in the Higher Regional Court in Frankfurt-am-Main.

Germany frequently has such cases. In one case last May, Syrian-German Rami M. was sentenced in Frankfurt-am-Main to four years and nine months' imprisonment for belonging to al-Qaeda, Lenta.ru reported.
