Canada: "Moderate" Muslims Outraged By Dis-Invitation Of Islamic Supremacist Imam

From Jihad Watch:

Canada: "Moderate" Muslims outraged by disinviting of Islamic supremacist imam

This is as predictable as it is noteworthy. The outraged Muslims claim that Delic is moderate, yet his Canadian Islamic Congress advocates for Hamas and Hizballah; publishes work by an antisemite; and is involved in the distribution of antisemitic election fliers. It is an enemy of the freedom of speech. More here.

So in a sane world, Muslims in Canada would be denouncing Delic and thanking MacKay for disinviting him. Instead, they're "riled." More on this story. "Muslims riled by MacKay's gag order on moderate B.C. Imam," from Vancouverite, October 3:

VANCOUVER - Canadian Muslims are riled by a decision by Canada's defence minister to yank a speech by a B.C. Imam that was scheduled for Monday.

Zijad Delic was to address Islamic Heritage Month celebrations in Ottawa on Monday. The Imam is an academic and a moderate and is known for his resentment of radicalism.

"Canada's Defence Minister Peter MacKay has cancelled an appearance by executive director of the Canadian Islamic Congress Imam Zijad Delic who was scheduled to address Islamic Heritage Month celebrations at National Defence headquarters in Ottawa on Monday," said Haroon Khan, a trustee with the Pakistan-Canada Association.

"It appears that the current Government of Canada has again succumbed to pressure from interest groups dedicated to shutting out articulate and passionate voices of reason and clarity that Imam Zijad Delic most definitely represents as head of the Canadian Islamic Congress," he said.

"Imam Zijad Delic and the Canadian Islamic Congress stand accused of promulgating extremist views. Remarks made by the Imam's predecessor regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict have been taken out of context and are being attributed to the Imam and the organization - A charge the Imam calls 'baseless' and 'unfounded'."

"Imam Zijad Delic served with honour and distinction as the Imam of the Richmond Jamia Masjid leading a congregation representing a United Nations of Muslims from all corners of the globe who came to the Mosque to practice their faith, perform their daily prayers and hear his talks on Islam. His warm and generous personality distinguished him as an Imam and community leader who remains active in Multiculturalism and inter-faith initiatives," Khan said in a statement.

"As a Muslim iof [sic] Bosnian descent he recently wrote eloquently about the need for truth and reconciliation to heal the wounds arising from the bloody conflict in his ancestral country, something that he feels should be applied to all the conflicts we face today. Imam Delic was a signatory in a recent Fatwa originating from Canada prohibiting Terrorism as an affront to Islam.

"As a Canadian he continues to build bridges of tolerance and understanding emphasizing the shared values of Muslims and those of all religions and cultures and has expressed the need for more engagement of Muslims in all parts of life in Canada," Khan said about the Imam who is considered to be an academically inclined and who has advanced the cause of moderate Islam.

"Imam Delic has served in many capacities as a spiritual leader, an advocate for the community and as a clear voice in bringing about a greater understanding of Islam and its traditions. I consider Imam Zijad Delic a Brother and true Friend and I am proud to stand with him," Khan said.

"Defence Minister Peter McKay has yet to give a good reason why he has uninvited the Imam. A public enquiry into what prompted this embarrassment to all Canadians should be called to strip the layers of rhetoric and misinformation being levelled at the Imam and Canadian Islamic Congress....

Yes, let's get a bright line shone upon the Canadian Islamic Congress. That sounds like a terrific idea.

Also, from Jihad Watch:

A small victory: Islamic supremacist Imam Zijad Delic disinvited to speak at "Islamic Heritage Month" event at Canada's Dept of National Defence

A small victory indeed: after all, why is there an "Islamic Heritage Month" at all at Canada's Department of National Defence? When is Jewish Heritage Month? Christian Heritage Month?

Still, any victory is...a victory. Delic is head of the Canadian Islamic Congress, about which you can read below. Kudos to Blazing Cat Fur, Steynian, and the incomparable Kathy Shaidle. Details: "Blazingcatfur Gets Results! MacKay Cancels DND Speech By Canadian Islamic Congress," from Blazing Cat Fur:

This is a small victory in a long war. A special thanks to our readers and the bloggers who supported this effort but most importantly we thank those who worked behind the scenes to make this happen. Good work all of you!

What we have witnessed is the effort by an extremist organization to legitimize itself in the public eye. This did not happen without enablers; useful idiots or willing conspirators the CIC had help from the inside. Whether the rot extends to DND itself or is confined to DFAIT remains to be seen. Hard questions must be asked. Access To Information requests with the Defence Department’s visible minority advisory group will be filed. We'll have more on the plan of action as it develops.

Contrary to the counter spin of the usual suspects the Canadian Islamic Congress has not been denied their right to free speech. They have simply been disinvited to speak at a government event, they remain perfectly free to continue expressing their views. Furthermore, and contrary to what some charge, the CIC has not been disinivited solely on the basis of the anti-semitic remarks of past president Mohamed Elmasry, rather it is the Canadian Islamic Congress's historic and continued advocacy of radical Islamist doctrine and anti-semitism that forms the justification for their exclusion from this event.

Noteworthy Canadian Islamic Congress Facts:

The CIC advocates on behalf of Hamas and Hizbollah, banned terrorist groups

The CIC has honoured Islamist hatemonger Zafar Bangash as a "Community Leader" a relationship they maintain to this day.

The CIC publishes work by notorious jew baiter "Greg Felton" author of the vile "The Host and the Parasite" , CIC representatives also happily shared a stage with Felton at a CIC event.

The CIC has been linked to the distribution of Anti-Semitic election flyers

The CIC has promoted anti-semitic essay contests

The CIC was responsible for the infamous Maclean's Human Right Commission Free Speech Witch Hunt, which Imam Delic endorsed.

The CIC advocates for the notorius Islamist sponsored anti-free speech UN resolution promoting the "Prohibition of the public defamation of religion" which is a soft-jihad lawfare effort by the Organisation of Islamic States to make criticism of Islam illegal. Showing much fortitude Canada voted against this effort to subvert our fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression, causing CIC President Wahida Valiante to reveal the true nature of the CIC's Islamist agenda against free speech and Canadian values in her denunciation of our government. The "defamation of religion" resolution is considered so dangerous a threat that even normally soft-headed members of the lib-left, such as John Ralston Saul, have denounced it.

The CIC's current president, Wahida Valiante espouses a particularly vile strain of 911 Trutherism " "By associating the words "Islamic terrorism" with the unknown attackers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon....

There is much more. Read it all.
