Khan spoke yesterday at Center City’s Arch Street Presbyterian Church as part of an interfaith celebration of King’s life and work. This 28th annual event was sponsored by the Neighborhood Interfaith Movement, a Mount Airy-based coalition of 58 Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Unitarian congregations.

Living in the United States, she’s seen strong links between the Quran and the nation’s founding documents: Tenets like one nation under God and the freedom to seek life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are common between them.



“Muslim values and American values are completely compatible,” she said, “so why this perception we are at odds with each other?”



Could it be the never ending onslaught of jihad plots and lawsuits threatening Americans into submission to Islam?



In the heat of the controversy over the New York Islamic Center, Khan and her husband met with the families of 9/11 victims. Many told the Khans that they feared Muslims.



Many? How many? Islamist fear mongering at its finest – casting the supposed fears of a few – whose relatives were killed by Muslims in the name of Islam – on an entire country.



Determined to change that perception, she and her husband are now embarking on a multicity speaking tour to introduce people to moderates like herself.



So-called “moderates” who want America to be a sharia compliant state.



“I know a day will come when Islam will be fully accepted as an American religion,” she said. “A day will come when an entire community is not blamed for the actions of a few . . . A day will come when a woman in a scarf and a man in a beard will not strike fear in somebody’s heart.”



Islam has never been “an American religion.” The nuance and deception is lost on “inter faith” groups but there is a big difference between being “accepted as an American religion” and “an accepted religion in America.” Islam is already an accepted religion in America, rightly or not, and it can be easily argued it is a favored religion at this point in time.



Is Khan planning to remove verses from the Koran to command Muslims to strike fear into the hearts of unbelievers? To be the opposite of the unbelievers? Or something quite different?
