In this article, Buffalo News columnist Donn Esmonde recaps this sorry trial and lays bare the grotesque evasion of responsibility and finger-pointing of Muzzammil Hassan -- the same evasion of responsibility and finger-pointing that we have seen so often from Islamic supremacists. Say it ain't so, Mo. It's bad enough that the guy slaughtered his wife. Mo Hassan's attacks unfortunately didn't end there. For days he has launched a Slo-Mo assault on the judicial system, subjecting us to a tortured courtroom self-defense that Thursday struck new depths of absurdity.

The only good news is that Hassan's gag-reflex claim that he was the victim of domestic abuse, and not the wife whom he stabbed 40 times before beheading her two years ago, is lurching toward a merciful end. The "Mo Show," which will go down among the lamest defenses in judicial history, is scheduled for closing arguments Monday.



The witnesses Hassan called Thursday were supposed to extricate him from his deep legal hole. Instead, they helped to dig his figurative grave. With "friends" like these, I hate to imagine what Hassan's enemies have to say.



Hassan's pretzel-logic attempts to paint his wife, Aasiya, as the domineering, abusive spouse and himself as the 300-pound victim backfired spectacularly Thursday. Not since the Hindenburg went down have we seen a public immolation of this magnitude.



Psychiatrist Gary Horwitz, under Hassan's tortuously convoluted questioning, crafted the image of a controlling, spouse-battering beast. The description, presumably in the eyes of everyone in the courtroom save Hassan, fit the defendant as perfectly as the handles of the knives he held when he slaughtered his wife.



At Hassan's prompting, Horwitz laid out the classic abuser behavior: Most violent when the victim takes steps to leave (Aasiya filed for divorce the week before she was killed).A tendency for "overkill" (Aasiya was stabbed 40 times and beheaded). And finally, surrendering after the murder (Hassan drove to the Orchard Park police station).



The only one in the courtroom who didn't see that Hassan was painting his own portrait was the man himself. I think Hassan is so blinded by hubris, self-pity and sense of persecution that he does not understand he is making the case against himself. No surprise there. The same distorted perceptions fed the inner control freak that led him to slaughter his wife.



Every psychological term that Hassan pressed Horwitz to define -- delusion, denial, projection -- could be accompanied in the clinical textbook by Mo Hassan's photo....

Rami Saba is on trial for murder, and he is busy proselytizing. Does he think that an expression of Islamic piety will make the jury go easy on him -- or even be afraid not to go easy on him, for fear of charges of "Islamophobia"? GRAND RAPIDS - Rami Saba, accused of kidnapping and killing 66-year-old Saranac resident Donald Dietz, wants to invoke the name of Allah throughout his upcoming murder trial.

"As the Honorable Court is well aware, mentioning the name of Allah in every matter is of essence for the defendant, by the grace of Allah," Saba wrote in a brief to U.S. District Judge Janet Neff.



He shared a verse, and said that "the above verse is the main reason why the defendant, either when talking or when writing, diligently seeks to mention the name of Allah, even as frequently as once in every sentence, when possible, because the defendant is seeking refuge in Allah from being counted among the hard-hearted ones who do not mention Allah; and that is the truth from Allah, the Gracious, the Gentle."



The government objected to Saba's plan to make repeated references to Allah.



"While there is a scarcity of specific case law condemning the practice suggested by Defendant Saba, the general rules of relevancy, character and conduct are instructive," U.S. Attorney Donald Davis wrote in his response.



He said Saba's religion is not relevant to the case, and could be used to improperly bolster or vouch for testimony.



Saba is representing himself at trial but will have standby counsel.



Saba, who was working as a financial planner, and his boyhood friend, Raogo Ouedraogo of Philadelphia, are accused of killing Dietz to gain his $450,000 in life savings....

Google Earth uncovers nearly 2000 archeological sites in Saudi Arabia, but also exposes them to destruction


While the Qur'an sets out a revisionist narrative of human history (e.g., Abraham, Moses and Jesus as prophets of Islam), the impulse to purge the earth of remnants of jahiliyyah, or pre-Islamic "ignorance," seeks to alter real life by destroying evidence of non-Islamic societies and their achievements (the most famous example being the Bamiyan Buddhas). The result is a program of cultural genocide and an attempt to rewrite reality itself that would have Orwell throwing up his hands and saying, "I just can't top this."



Thus, news of the existence of these sites in Saudi Arabia is a double-edged sword: it opens them up for research and discovery, or pious destruction. Of course, it never seems to occur to clerics who order such suppression and destruction that their paranoia is a sign of weakness. They cast their own faith as fragile and flimsy -- a house of cards that would topple over in a gentle breeze -- and they give the appearance of having something to hide. Perhaps they fear the discovery of something else along the lines of the Yemeni cache of ancient, non-standard Qur'ans, or simply that the evidence does not support Islam's retelling of history.

David Kennedy, a professor of classics and ancient history at the University of Western Australia, used Google Earth satellite maps to pinpoint 1,977 potential archaeological sites, including 1,082 teardrop shaped stone tombs.

If the religious police have their way, it may be 1081, 1080, 1079, 1078...



"I've never been to Saudi Arabia," Dr Kennedy said. "It's not the easiest country to break into."

Dr Kennedy told New Scientist that he had verified the images showed actual archaeological sites by asking a friend working in the Kingdom to photograph the locations.

The use of aerial and satellite imaging has been used in Britain to locate Iron Age and Roman sites in Britain, as well as Nazca lines in Peru and Mayan ruins in Belize.

But few archaeologists have been given access to Saudi Arabia, which has long been hostile to the discipline. Hardline clerics in the kingdom fear that it might focus attention on the civilisations which flourished there before the rise of Islam - and thus, in the long term, undermine the state religion.

In 1994, a council of Saudi clerics was reported to have issued an edict asserting that preserving historical sites "could lead to polytheism and idolatry" - both punishable, under the Kingdom's laws, by death.

Saudi Arabia's rulers have, in recent years, allowed archaeologists to excavate some sites, including the spectacular but little-known ruins of Maidan Saleh, a 2,000 old city which marked the southern limits of the powerful Nabataean civilisation.

One of the great pleasures that has come to me since I joined as a writer for Jihadwatch has been discovering (or revisiting) the work of so many lucid and humane authors who address the issues that swirl around the global confrontation with expansionist Islam.



It is no small thing to me, the existence of these authors; the subject matter we deal with here is grim. The news we're dispensing is bad. No one really wants to hear it. In fact, most of those whom we try to convince are strongly motivated to dismiss our arguments out of hand because:









•They're beguiling themselves with multiculturalist leftism, which subjects the West (especially the United States, the Christian faith, and the State of Israel) to an outrageous double standard, while giving Islam (and usually, Marxism) an infinite supply of "Get Out of Hell, Free" cards.





•They have internalized, too deeply and in the wrong way, the post-Westphalian imperative to avoid religious conflict by treating faith as a private matter. One should no more criticize another man's faith (or faithlessness) than one should discuss the physical attractiveness of his wife. It's simply... uncivilized, and it can lead to a bloody fistfight.





•They are genuinely magnanimous and tolerant, and hence are reluctant to accept the "bad news" we have shown up to preach about Islam. Surely, it's just an ugly caricature--the equivalent of those "Jack Chick" tracts that mock the Catholic sacraments (the eucharist is a "death cookie") or Father Coughlin's radio rants denouncing "Judaeo-Masonry." The ugliness of Islamic orthodoxy is simply impossible for them to reconcile with the friendliness of the Egyptian guy who runs their favorite shish-kabob cafe.





•They are really, deeply scared. That is something humiliating to admit. So they lash out, deny, ignore, or wish away the facts.







So ours is a tough line of work. I'm reminded of one of my favorite TV shows, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. It focuses on detectives who hunt down rapists and child molesters, and does a good job of showing the effects on professionals who spend their lives mucking around in the gutters of human behavior, trying to keep the sewage under control. And where else should we locate the Islamic hunger for world conquest, its adolescent lust for sex and power, its misogynistic refusal to see women as persons, and the sickening crimes against humanity that are committed every day in its name (as this site tries in a small way to chronicle)?



But just as on the show it's a genuine pleasure to see a sharp detective crack a case and collar a perp, so it's a real delight to encounter writers who tell the truth gracefully, who swim against the current of doublethink on these issues, often at great personal cost to themselves--or at least, with little reward. Names like Bat Ye'or, Robert Spencer, Robert Reilly and Steven Emerson come to mind. But one person whom I'd never encountered before, whom I've read with enormous pleasure and profit, is Ibn Warraq. Ever since Robert Spencer handed me two of his books, I have taken them with to restaurants and cafes to read for pleasure--in much the same sense I enjoy watching Law and Order: SVU.



Why I Am Not a Muslim is a lucid and cogent exploration of the inherent intellectual weaknesses of Islam, the long list of historical crimes that can be laid to its account, and the fragile, heretical offshoots of that faith which tried (vainly) to escape from the intellectual and moral straitjacket that Muhammad placed on a large portion of the human race. My favorite section is its exploration of how Islam tries to hijack the sacred scriptures of both Judaism and Christianity--which Muhammad plagiarized based on hearsay, transmogrified self-servingly into predictions of his mission, then claimed (with no evidence) had been falsified by Jews and Christians to remove all the abundant references to a future (and final) Arab prophet. Whatever Jews may think of the Christian appropriation of the Hebrew Scriptures, or Christians might think of the Book of Mormon, in neither case did the newcomers have the hubris to claim that their precursors had faked their own religious books. It took the bandit-chieftain of Medina to summon that much gall--as Ibn Warraq documents in damning detail.



The other Ibn Warraq book I'm enjoying (it's too good to race through, and I'm still savoring it one chapter at a time) is Defending the West, a comprehensive refutation of Edward Said's infamous Orientalism. For those of you who haven't slogged through the latter book, it is--simply put--the intellectual charter of multiculturalism. Sloppily conceived and hastily written, it has attained almost Qur'anic status among teachers and students at such havens of anti-Zionism and anti-Americanism as the Middle East and Islamic studies programs at Columbia University, Georgetown, American University, to name a few. A deracinated Arab ex-Christian, Said employs all the tools of fashionable French literary criticism to defame the centuries of selfless work done by Western scholars of "oriental" cultures, dismissing hundreds of scholars and their thousands of books as epiphenomena of Western imperialism. In other words, the only reason all these Westerners wanted to learn about the Islamic or Hindu world was to help their governments rape them.



And Ibn Warraq calls Said on his lies. He systematically proves that Said is either ignorant of, or purposely dishonest about, the long list of English, French, and other scholars who dedicated their lives to learning dozens of Semitic or Indian languages; to digging up and preserving archaeological treasures neglected or forgotten by local residents; to collecting, editing, and publishing profound religious and literary works from the ancient world that would otherwise have been lost; to launching the 19th and 20th century renaissance of Hindu culture (a work for which even nationalistic Indians, as Warraq documents, credit these selfless foreign scholars).



This vast work of disinterested scholarship, and the intellectual disciplines it has launched, the cosseted Prof. Said of Columbia University dismissed in a slim and poorly researched book that is now clutched in the fingers of undereducated, anti-Western Ivy Leaguers across the country--and cited, Warraq shows, by Islamic supremacists and bigots in the Islamic world as a tool to intimidate and dismiss those who fight for human rights. I have seen very few works of scholarship that so utterly devastate their targets; the only work I can compare to Warraq's obliteration of Said is Ludwig von Mises' concise, irrefutable work on Marxism, Economic Calculation in the Socialist Commonwealth--which demonstrated logically, decades before it happened, why the Soviet Union had to collapse.



As downcast as we might become in the face of the traitors and the appeasers, the dhimmis and the timid, we should take some comfort from this comparison. Mises was dismissed in his day as a crank by an economics profession beguiled by varieties of Marxism or corrupted by Maynard Keynes. But his prophecy came true. Marxist economics do not work, so Marxist economies didn't. Islam corrodes and suppresses the intellect, retards scientific progress, monopolizes and deadens civilizations, and stagnates every country where it becomes a dominant force. Its only advantages today lie in our addiction to oil, and the fertility of Muslim women. The West still has the means to push back, hard, against Islamic conquest. The weapon it needs is the truth--of the sort told by Ibn Warraq. And he tells it at the highest intellectual level, in language betraying a liberal arts education of the sort few Westerners receive nowadays. Defending the West should be required reading for every undergraduate in America. If you know a young person headed for college or graduate school, it really is the perfect gift. It's the intellectual equivalent of the polio vaccine. Don't send anyone off to the swamps without it.

The problem with the great multiculturalism experiment is that it’s almost impossible to unwind once it inevitably fails:

Before him, the German Chancellor, and in response to a challenge from members of the very same faith:







Germany’s attempt to create a multicultural society has “utterly failed,” Chancellor Angela Merkel said, adding fuel to a debate over immigration and Islam polarising her conservative camp.

And this is the reality that the Government’s White Paper (on counter-terrorism) now concedes in the frankest language I’ve heard in public.



“A … shift apparent since 2004 has been the increase in the terrorist threat from people born or raised in Australia, who have become influenced by the violent jihadist message,” it warns. “A number of Australians are known to subscribe to this message, some of whom might be prepared to engage in violence. Many of these individuals were born in Australia and they come from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds.”



And then this warning, so pregnant with implications: ”The scale of the problem will continue to depend on factors such as the size and make-up of local Muslim populations, including their ethnic and/or migrant origins, their geographical distribution and the success or otherwise of their integration into their host society.”



Let me decode that. The Government admits the size of this growing terrorism threat depends on the size of our Muslim population.



Cameron’s speech is also another example of politicians finally finding the courage to say today what was deemed too evil to say yesterday. Beware the silencing of dissent, even by people with “nice” motives.

(Frankfurt) The German state of Hesse has pushed out a new law banning the use of the Islamic burka for public workers. The ban came about after a 39-year-old Moroccan woman who works for Frankfurt City declared that she intended to cover up on her return from maternity leave. It seems that the woman was your typical westernised Muslim, until she married a very religious Muslim. Overnight, she changed and shocked her co-workers when she informed them that when she returns from maternity leave, she would be covered from head to toe. The thing is, her work entails meeting and talking to the public.







Instead of rolling over and allowing minority Muslims to dictate to the majority non-Muslims on how it is going to be, the German Stadt of Hesse simply banned the wearing of the burka for public sector workers during office hours. It is now reported that the woman is demanding a severance package from her employer because it refuses to allow employees to come to work with completely enshrouded bodies.

Its concrete-laden town centre looks an unlikely spot for a clash of civilisations, but Luton has emerged as the battlefield for tensions between radical Islam and Britain's far-right.



Efforts by this drab commuter town north of London to shed its image as an extremist hotbed suffered a setback in December when local resident Taymour Abdelwahab blew himself up in a botched suicide attack in Stockholm.



Luton, where around 15 percent of the population of nearly 200,000 are Muslim, was also the departure point for the four suicide bombers who killed 52 people on London's transport system on July 7, 2005.



Now the anti-Islamist English Defence League (EDL), which formed in Luton two years ago amid simmering communal tensions, will hold a march in the town on Saturday that is expected to draw thousands of supporters.



The march has unnerved residents of Bury Park, a heavily Muslim neighbourhood in Luton where mosques and religious schools nestle among red brick houses and shops.



"We're a very close-knit community in Luton and the last thing we want is any sort of trouble or any marches. People just want to get on with their lives," said local business leader Mohammed Nadeem.



Qadeer Baksh, the director of the Luton Islamic Centre, says the town's reputation is undeserved.



"To say that Luton is a hotspot for extremism, is wrong. There is a lot of good integration of faiths, of the races," Baksh says.



It was at this centre that Abdelwahab once worshipped -- but Baksh said the Iraqi-born bomber stormed out of the mosque in 2007 and never returned after staff "exposed" his radical beliefs.



Baksh admits they never informed the authorities of their concerns about Abdelwahab, but said the confrontation with him was part of a long process of trying to rid Luton of radicalism.



Luton's problems with extremism began in the 1990s when its proximity to London made it a recruiting ground for fiery imams from the notorious Finsbury Park mosque including Omar Bakri and Abu Hamza.



Bakri left Britain for Lebanon in 2005, where he faces criminal charges, while Hamza is now in jail.



In 2001, two Luton men were killed fighting with the Taliban in Afghanistan, then in 2004, the ringleader of the 7/7 bombers met near Luton with some of the men involved in a failed plot to explode fertiliser bombs in Britain.



Trouble flared again in March 2009 when Muslim hardliners jeered a homecoming parade for British troops who had served in Afghanistan.



That incident spawned the EDL and the far-right group has since rallied in several towns against the "Islamisation" of Britain.



"Luton is the birthplace of the EDL," EDL spokesman Guramit Singh said.



"Muslims are basically moving into areas, taking over the areas, forcing other people to move out," claimed Singh, who as a Sikh is a rare ethnic minority member of the group.



"Islam is militant, it is extreme, it wants to rule the world, they have a plan within 30 years to turn this country into an Islamic state."



The EDL backtracked on plans to invite US preacher Terry Jones, who caused a furore last year by planning an "International Burn a Koran Day" on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, to Saturday's rally.



Tensions in Luton have also risen as members of the Islamist group which jeered the troops in 2009 have themselves been back on the streets, handing out leaflets in a bid to recruit new followers.



They have links to Al-Muhajiroun, an extremist group banned by Britain which was led by Bakri.



But the borough council denies that Luton is a problem town -- much less any kind of symbol for multicultural tensions in Britain.



The borough council's "Luton in Harmony" campaign just marked its first anniversary. So far 13,000 people have signed a "harmony pledge" and the council has handed out 60,000 badges.



"It's not to say that Luton doesn't have issues, but I don't recognise the town I read about in the newspapers. I feel the fact that the 7/7 bombers got on a train at Luton does not amount to a link to extremism," says Sarah Allen, the council's inclusion and cohesion manager.



She says the council is trying to tackle poverty and other community issues that could fuel tensions.



Baksh, from the Luton Islamic centre, is optimistic.



"All you have to do is remove the extremism of the EDL, get them out of the picture, get these Muslim extremists, the Al Muhajiroun, out of the picture," he said.



"Then Luton will be back to the 80s and 90s where everything was fine."
