Muslim Brotherhood Leader Caught Lying--While Swearing To God

Muslim Brotherhood Leader Caught Lying—While Swearing to God

Raymond Ibrahim is associate director of the Middle East Forum and author of The Al Qaeda Reader. Explore the point where Islam and Christianity meet with Raymond Ibrahim, as he brings the latest information on Christian persecution in the Muslim world, translates important Arabic news that would otherwise never reach the West, and more

Sobhi Saleh, a top Muslim Brotherhood leader who was elected by Egypt’s Supreme Council to be on the constitution amendment committee, recently gave a speech wherein he insisted that Brotherhood men should only marry Brotherhood women, since they are “superior” to other Muslim women in Egypt—and so they can “produce little Brotherhood kids.” He also likened Egyptian secularists to atheists (that is, infidels) and referred to Egyptians disagreeing with the Brotherhood as qaum lut, the “People of Lot,” the Koran’s unflattering appellation for sexually depraved societies.

To “clarify” his position, which he received some heat for, Saleh recently appeared on Dream TV, debating Muslim intellectual Dr. Khaled Montaser. At one point, because he was unable to refute Montaser, Saleh snidely remarked that he was unaware the show was going to be an “inquisition” and that he wasn’t even informed that Montaser would be debating him. The host Mona al-Shazly, protested, adding, “Yes, you did know who you would be facing.”

Saleh kept insisting otherwise, including by swearing to God—all with a very sincere look.

The host, visibly stunned, pointed out that she and the whole studio team were present when the coordinator called Saleh and told him who the other guest would be, adding in a very disappointed tone, “I have a great problem that you would swear to God on the air, when I know for a fact that you’re lying.”

Watching the video, it is clear that Saleh was mortified and speechless, to the point that, to break the awkward silence, the host said, “Okay, we’ve passed this, let’s move on now.”

This anecdote is ultimately for the benefit of those Western peoples uninitiated in Islamic lore, who—by projecting their own ethic onto Islam—may find it incongruent for a Muslim who piously seeks to order society around God’s laws, do so by taking false oaths in that same God’s name.

Yet, the fact is, Saleh’s lie accords well with Islam’s notorious doctrines of deception, which permit Muslims to deceive in order to empower Islam—which is precisely what the Muslim Brotherhood and all Islamist organizations, violent and nonviolent, are all about.

Why Saleh resorted to lying is further telling: his opponent was armed with facts, which always beat sophistry. For example, when Saleh began arguing that a Brotherhood-led government for Egypt would be wonderful for Coptic Christians, Montaser proceeded to read from a number of fatwas issued by the Brotherhood’s former grand mufti, Abdullah al-Khatib—fatwas asserting that it is forbidden to build new churches in Egypt, that in certain situations it is obligatory for Muslims to destroy churches—a regular occurrence in Egypt—and that it is forbidden to bury Christians in Muslim cemeteries, “lest they [the Muslims] suffer from the Christian’s torments of the grave.”

Incidentally, Saleh is the same Brotherhood leader who was portrayed affectionately in the New York Times: “He is a distinguished 57, clean-shaven, with white hair, wearing an orange sweater and black flip-flops. He has a leopard tissue cozy: not a leopard-print container, but what looks like a toy stuffed animal around his tissue box…. He is immediately engaging, the kind of person you shake hands with at a conference then find yourself telling people, ‘He’s such a nice guy,’ without really knowing why.”

Why, indeed. Probably because he is a master at letting people hear what they want to hear, especially in English. (Watch Saleh as he leads an Egyptian mob chanting intolerant Islamist slogans and calling for the implementation of Sharia, and somehow he won’t appear like “such a nice guy.”)

Thus, as the U.S. director of national intelligence foolishly describes the Brotherhood as “a very heterogeneous group, largely secular, which has eschewed violence,” and as President Obama asks Israel to make concessions to similar organizations, one must ask:

If top Islamist leaders have no problem lying about silly things to fellow Muslims—while swearing to God—how trustworthy are any of their words and promises to Western and Israeli leaders, that is, the hated infidels?

Sudanese Military, Militias Kill Christians in South Kordofan

Two dead, two others tortured on day when at least three church buildings are attacked

SOUTH KORDAFAN, SUDAN -- Compass Direct News (CDN) is reporting that military intelligence agents killed one Christian, and Islamic militants sympathetic to the government slaughtered another last week after attacking churches in Sudan's embattled South Kordofan state.

CDN said that Christian sources have said that a Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) Intelligence unit detained Nimeri Philip Kalo, a student at St. Paul Major Seminary, on June 8 near the gate of the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) in Kadugli's al Shaeer area and shot him in front of bystanders. Kalo and other Christians were fleeing the town after Muslim militias loyal to the SAF attacked and looted at least three church buildings in Kadugli, they said.

"Armed conflict in Kadugli broke out between southern and northern militaries on June 6 after northern forces seized Abyei last month," the CDN story continued. "On June 8, Islamic militants loyal to the SAF slaughtered a young Christian man by sword in Kadugli Market, the sources said.

"Adeeb Gismalla Aksam, 33, was a bus driver whose father is an elder with the Evangelical Church in Kadugli. The Islamic militias were heard shouting 'Allahu-akbar' (God is greater) as they began shooting at a Roman Catholic Church building the same day. No one was hit by the bullets shot at the building from the outside, but SAF agents arrested the Rev. Abraham James Lual in front of his congregation. Authorities took him to an unknown location and tortured him for two days, a priest said."

The story added that the SAF and Islamic militias on June 8 also set fire to buildings of the Episcopal Church of Sudan and the Sudanese Church of Christ in Kadugli, sources said.

"The churches and pastors were directly targeted," said the Rt. Rev. Bishop Andudu Adam Elnail.

There are unconfirmed estimates of more than 53,000 people displaced due to the fighting in Southern Kordofan between the northern army known as the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) of Southern Sudan, according to the UN humanitarian wing.

Media reports say that fighting, including bombardments and artillery shelling, has been reported in 11 of 19 localities in Southern Kordofan state, and fighting has been reported in Unity state in Southern Sudan, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has said.

Some of the internally displaced persons (IDPs), as well as local and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and UN staff, have taken refuge outside the compound of the UN peacekeeping mission (UNMIS) on the outskirts of the Southern Kordofan capital of Kadugli.

Central Java: Justice Held In Check Only One Year For Imam Who Ordered Attack On Three Churches

Central Java, Justice held in check only one year for imam who ordered attack on three churches

In February Syihabudin, religious leader in Temanggung, incited 1500 Muslims against the local Christian community. Sentences of between 4 and 5 months for

some accomplices. The violence triggered by an alleged case of blasphemy. Moderates see judicial system in favor of Muslims. Government and police helpless against the extremist groups.

Jakarta (AsiaNews) - The moderate Indonesian population is in shock after the lenient sentence of one year prison for Syihabudin, the imam responsible for the attacks against Christians that took place on February 8 in Temanggung (Central Java). Indonesian English-language newspapers published the criticisms of many readers regarding the ruling, which could be reduced, taking into account the months the religious leader has already served. 25 other people suspected of involvement, were tried and sentenced to between 4 and 5 months.

"The independence of the Indonesian court is not in question - says one reader - yet no one condemns those judges who do not respect the values of the Pancasilla (the five guiding principles of the state, which guarantees religious freedom and social justice for all - ed) and fail to take into account the equality of all citizens. " Another citizen points out: "Syihabuddin only got one year in prison. Who says the system is tilted in favor of Muslims?”.

On February 8 Syihabudin has incited a crowd of 1,500 Muslims to protest against the sentence of five years in prison for blasphemy of Antonius Richmond Bawengan, a Christian born in Manado (North Sulawesi), claiming he deserved the death penalty. Within hours, thousands of extremists led by Syihabudin have destroyed three Roman Catholic churches, an orphanage and a Protestant church (see AsiaNews 08/02/2011 Central Java: Thousands of Muslims attack three churches, an orphanage and a Christian centre). The police, who arrived in small numbers, failed to placate the crowd, which beat and injured several Christians.

Theophilus Bela, activist and promoter of interreligious dialogue, said that "despite the religious freedom allowed Indonesia, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the police forces 'sleep' when it comes to defending minorities against attacks by Islamic extremists." According to him, the government and security forces so far have shown no actions severe enough to disrupt the groups that promote Islamic slogans and commit violence against Christians. "The riots that occurred in Temanggung - he says - are a clear example of how the Indonesian government is powerless in the face of these radical groups. "

Bela also adds that the mild sentence against Syihabuddin demonstrates the fragility of the judicial system, which now fears the pressures of the strongest social groups.

Bikinis, Beards Battle It Out In Egypt

Bikinis, beards battle it out in Egypt

Cairo: As Egypt is gearing up for its first elections since former president Hosni Mubarak was ousted last February, the nation's Islamists and secularists are engaged in a high-profile sparring. Their latest battlefield is the social networking website Facebook.

The Islamists, whose power has been rising since Mubarak's toppling, fired the first salvo in the Facebook battle this month when they launched the "one-million-beard" campaign inspired by a series of one million-strong protests staged in Cairo's iconic Tahrir Square over recent weeks to prod Egypt's military rulers to expedite the pace of reforms and the purge of Mubarak's loyalists.

"We encourage Egypt's 80 million people to sport their beards," Mohammad Hassan, a famous fundamentalist Muslim cleric, was quoted as saying in promoting the campaign. "No one should stand in the way of (religious) commitment," he added.

A few days later, the secularists picked up the gauntlet, unveiling the "one-million-bikini" campaign.

"The Salafists act as though they were living alone in this country," said Hassan Rashad, a commerce student, who is on the side of the pro-bikini campaign. "They forget that Egypt is for its Muslims and Copts alike."

Christians make up around 10 per cent of Egypt's population, and have voiced concern over Islamists' rising influence.

To Rashad, the campaign shows Egyptians' characteristic sense of humour while sending a clear message. "The new Egypt we want is a civil state where all citizens will be treated equally regardless of their religion, ideology or gender."

"Our slogan for the coming stage is: Freedom, transparency, and nothing to hide," reads one satirical comment on the homepage of the one-million-bikini campaign. Another subscriber suggests the creation of a political party for bikini wearers, apparently scoffing at a plethora of political parties in post-Mubarak Egypt.

Authorities have recently recognized several new political parties, including Al Nour, the first Salafist party in this predominantly Muslim country.

Ethiopian Court Imprisons More Than 500 Muslim Extremists For Mass Church Burnings

Court Imprisons More Than 500 Muslim Extremists for Mass Church Burnings

More than 500 Muslims have been given prison sentences in Ethiopia for violent attacks against Christians that left one dead, and 69 churches burned to the ground, reports International Christian Concern (ICC).

An Ethiopian court sentenced 579 Muslim extremists to between three and 18 months in prison for violence that lasted an entire week against Christians beginning on March 2, 2011.

ICC has also reported that 107 individuals stand accused under terrorism-related charges for their roles in the attacks, as well as eight gang leaders that authorities are still looking for.

In March this publication reported how thousands of Islamic extremists were attacking churches throughout Ethiopia. According to Compass Direct more than 4,000 Christians in and around Asendabo, in the Jimma Zone were displaced as a result of attacks after Muslims accused a Christian of desecrating the Quran.

A pastor based in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa reported in March: “The church requested more police protection. The authorities sent security forces, but they were overwhelmed by the attackers.”

After the destruction began at Asendabo, it spread to Chiltie, Gilgel Gibe, Gibe, Nada, Dimtu, Uragay, Busa and Koticha, as Muslim mobs in the thousands rampaged throughout the area, Compass Direct reported.

Following the court judgments this week, an Ethiopian church leader told ICC: “I am glad that the rule of law prevailed and the church has finally got protection from the government. The judges who looked at these cases have delivered justice. We are happy that the truth has finally been revealed.”

Ethiopia is the second most populous country in the African continent, and has a Christian majority. According to the 2007 Ethiopian census the country is 62.8 percent Christian, and just 33.9 percent Muslim. However, ICC explain that in regions where Muslims do make up the majority Christians are known to face persecution.

Jonathan Racho, ICC’s Regional Manager for Africa has said, “We welcome the decision of Ethiopian courts. We hope that the decision sends a strong message to radical Muslims that violence against innocents will not go unpunished.”

Australian Muslims Demand Halal Training Center

Australian Muslims demand halal training center

Australian Muslim community has called for setting up a halal training centre.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Australian Muslim community has called for setting up a halal training centre.

Australia’s top Muslim body has demanded a new taxpayer-funded halal training centre that would prepare refugees for jobs slaughtering animals in rural areas.

The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) said the centre would help solve the live-animal export dilemma while boosting jobs and maintaining the meat and livestock industry.

AFIC President Ikebal Patel will write to Agriculture Minister Joe Ludwig within days to seek financial backing.

Patel insisted that for a “couple of million dollars” taxpayers would get more country jobs, more refugees out of big-city "enclaves" and into work, and a stronger home-grown meat and livestock industry.

“We think the Australian Muslim community can help both the Government and the meat and livestock industry,” said Ikebal Patel.

According to Islamic Sharia designates any food, good or action which is permitted to be used or done by God Almighty.

Not all animals are allowed to be consumed in Islam and for those permitted they have to be killed in a special way so that they are Halal or edible according to Islamic law.

Australian Attorney General: "There Is No Place For Sharia Law In Australian Society And The Government Strongly Rejects Any Proposal For Its Introduction"

From Jihad Watch:

Australian attorney general: "There is no place for Sharia law in Australian society and the government strongly rejects any proposal for its introduction"

"Legal pluralism," the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils called it. They may win a prize for Euphemism of the Year, but their agenda is obvious: achieving a foot in the proverbial door for the introduction of "just a little" Sharia ("Just a little bit of peril!"), legitimizing the law in principle and providing the basis for continued expansion in the name of "tolerance" and "pluralism."

"What could be the harm in so little," they will ask, and accuse critics of alarmism and, of course, Islamophobia. Failing to submit to this proposal could be portrayed as a means of "alienating" Muslim "youth" and a source of potential "radicalization."

But it appears for the moment that this government has moved to stop this disaster before it can start. Not that we've heard the last of it, by far. "Govt says no to sharia law," from the Australian Associated Press, May 17 (thanks to all who sent this in):

The federal government has quickly moved to block any calls for sharia law in Australia.

In its submission to the parliamentary inquiry into the government's new multiculturalism policy, The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils has called for Muslims to be granted "legal pluralism".

Attorney-General Robert McClelland stomped on the request.

"There is no place for sharia law in Australian society and the government strongly rejects any proposal for its introduction," Mr McClelland told AAP.

Sharia has faced repeated criticism.

You can say that again.

It is again in the headlines following an Iranian court's decision to delay a planned "eye-for-an-eye" act of justice against a man who threw acid at a woman's face because she refused his marriage proposal.

"As our citizenship pledge makes clear, coming to Australia means obeying Australian laws and upholding Australian values," Mr McClelland said.

"Australia's brand of multiculturalism promotes integration.

"If there is any inconsistency between cultural values and the rule of law then Australian law wins out."

Mr McClelland is keen to assert Australia's position as a "stable democracy" where "rule of law" underpins society.

"People who migrate to Australia do so because of the fact that we have a free, open and tolerant society where men and woman are equal before the law irrespective of race, religious or cultural background."

Some of them migrate with the intention of coexisting while they have to, but with the aspiration of introducing an altogether different system.
